Sport News

The PDHPE program has been extremely busy this term will each year group engaging in a different topic area.

 

Year 7 – Health Literacy

Students have been learning about different health messages in the media and being able to understand and critique health information so that they can make the best possible choice.

 

Year 8 – Live Life Well

Sexual Health, Body Image and Reproduction have been the focus areas. Students have been provided with a brief introduction into these challenging topic areas.

 

Year 9 – Power and Relationships

Students have learnt about healthy relationships, what impact power has on a relationship and how best to manage conflict in a relationship.

 

Year 10 – Mental Fitness

Do students have the coping strategies to deal with the issues they are facing today? Being resilient and coping with change is a key skill for our Year 10 students as they move into Stage 6.

 

PASS – Sports Coaching

Students have been working towards completing their online coaching course. As part of the student assessment, they have been required to teach a specific sporting skill to the class.

 

Child Studies – Reflecting on Culture Studentshave been investigating the concept of culture and how it has had an impact on their lives. Mr Hoole’s class have been handing in their eye-catching posters over the last few weeks which has been a fantastic display of student work and understanding. 

 

Year 11 PDHPE – Body in Motion: Students have investigated the skeletal, muscular, circulatory and respiratory systems. They have also learnt how to write a training program for an elite athlete. Some students will be able to apply this program to their own sporting lives.

 

Year 11 CAFS – Individuals and Groups Students have developed a broad understanding of the different groups in the community. By selecting a group and identifying a specific conflict student understanding in this area.

 

Year 11 SLR – Coaching and Training

Mr Mellish’s SLR class have completed a coaching unit. Students have introduced to the different styles of coaching and what makes an effective coaching in today’s sporting world.

 

Year 12 PDHPE – Factors Affecting Performance

The two Year 12 classes are more than half way through their HSC studies. Students have studied the different energy systems and their impact on training and performance.

 

Year 12 CAFS – Groups in Context

Students have explored four specific groups within the community who may be experiencing inequities. By looking at the nature of a group, their specific needs and their level of access towards various services within Australia.

 

Year 12 SLR – Resistance Training

Mr Hoole’s SLR class have been learning about the key elements of a resistance training program. Students have been active in the school gym and have to Central Coast Health and Fitness to undertake a personal training session.

 

Tuesday Sport

A huge thanks to Mr Mellish for his organisation of the weekly Tuesday sports program. COVID restrictions, wet weather and field closures have made it extremely difficult this term to have a consistent sports program in Term 2. However, each week our students have been given a range of opportunities to demonstrate their sporting talents. Sports included: Ten Pin Bowling, Niagara Extreme, Pulse Climbing, Tennis, Basketball, Farm Fitness, Just Dance, Netball, Oz Tag, Soccer Development, Volleyball, Walking for Fitness, Special Education Sports and Games/Skills have been the options for students this term. Term 3 Sports Selections will be available shortly.

 

Carnivals

A huge term for carnivals with the HKHS school athletics carnival and the Brisbane Water Zone Athletics carnival taking place this term. Well done to all students that attended and congratulations to our age champions

A huge congratulations must also go to those students that attended the Brisbane Water Zone Cross Country Carnival and the Sydney North Cross Country which was held at Gosford Racecourse. With results being finalised numerous students have been successful in gaining entry into the CHS Cross Country Carnival in Term 3.

 

Sydney North Knockout Sport

Congratulations to all students that represented HKHS in Sydney North Knockout games this term. Sports included:

  • Under 15’s Basketball vs Carlingford (Loss)
  • Open Girls Touch Football
  • Central Coast Futsal - Well done to all teams that made it to the State titles in Maitland and a huge thanks to Mr Hoole, Mr Silver and Miss Ridley for coaching the teams

Boys to Men – Year 9 Mentoring

The Boys to Men Year 9 Mentoring Program run by Mr Sheppard and Mr Wright has been ongoing this Term each Thursday afternoon. Students have been involved in the following activities throughout the term that helped them become an active community within the school community.

Hopefully the boys have enjoyed the program this term and have learnt something about themselves and others in the group.

HKHS Got Talent

HKHS Got Talent will be up and running again this year. Auditions are currently taking place in Term 2 Week 10 with the final show to be on Thursday 4 August in the MPC. We look forward to seeing a large range of performances in Education Week.

 

Let’s Move at Lunch

Our House Captains have started the Let’s Move at Lunch initiative this Term. In recent weeks, students have participated in a non-competitive environment in the following sports on the oval and COLA – Basketball, Soccer, Touch Football and Volleyball. Hopefully this initiative will continue in Term 3.
