Mathematics Faculty
As we reach the end of Term 2, the Mathematics Faculty would like to congratulate those students who have persisted under difficult learning conditions. We are certainly seeing the impact of the disruption to learning that Covid-19 has had and continues to have, and it is very pleasing to see students who continue to strive for their best.
- Year 7 have been looking at Fractions, Decimals and Percentages and are moving into Algebra.
- Year 8 have been working on Equations and Linear Functions.
- Year 9 have been studying Data and Equations with some students using Pythagoras’ Theorem and some investigating Indices.
- Year 10 students have learnt about different aspects of Data Analysis and Measurement. Our senior students have worked through various units relevant to their respective courses.
- All Year 11 students will be completing their second assessment task during the final week of term.
- Some Year 12 courses will also be completing tasks in Week 10. Whilst other courses will sit an exam in Week 1 of Term 3.
Whilst attendance and active participation in class is paramount, there is also a significant correlation between student achievement and revision away from the classroom. Senior students should be generating their own detailed topic summaries and completing exam-style questions on a regular basis.
Completing these questions under the same time constraints as an exam is highly recommended. As a guide, 1.5 minutes per mark is appropriate for each question. This is especially important for Year 12 students who sit their Trial HSC Exams early in Term 3.
Year 9 and 10 students should also be creating topic summaries and ensuring that incomplete classroom activities are finished off for homework.
For Year 7 and 8, we will be making greater use of MathsOnline to create weekly homework tasks starting next term. All students should be aware of their MathsOnline usernames and passwords, if there are any issues, classroom teachers can reset passwords.
We wish everyone in our community a safe and enjoyable break and look forward to another productive term.
