Prep Firefighter Visit

This week the Prep students had their second visit from the local fire department. This time they got to have a tour of the fire truck and even have a turn at using the water hose! The firefighters revised some concepts that they explored in the previous session, such as smoke detectors, calling 000 and safe meeting places.

P-2 Health Wheel

Recently the P-2s explored the ‘Healthy Eating Wheel' as part of their 'Healthy Mind, Body and Spirit’ Inquiry unit. The students were given the task of selecting a piece of food and deciding whether it was an ‘everyday food’ or a ‘sometimes food’. They then further categorised the foods according to the wheel.  There was a lot of discussion around fruits that we sometimes mistakenly classify as vegetables, like tomatoes.

Students needed to concentrate on who was throwing to them and who you were throwing to. Yash

It was important to throw the beanbag to the person's chest, so they could easily catch it. Enock

It was fun, terrific, amazing, enjoyable. We needed to know everyone's names. We could trust that people would focus and be ready to catch. We need to practise throwing and catching so we can be better at that.  Roman, Adam, Suzanne and Olivia.

Guided Meditation and Yoga

There were a lot of calm and relaxed students after this activity, with some even saying they were very close to falling asleep! The students took part in guided mediation and yoga to help calm their minds and bodies.  It was fantastic to see all the year levels coming together to work on their wellbeing.

How To Be a Good Friend Role Plays

The sessions began with the ‘Life Raft’ game where the students had to work collaboratively to ensure their friends made it safely into a life raft (hula hoop) without being eaten by a ‘shark’. It was wonderful to see students holding on to each other, making room for others and encouraging them to not give up.

We then discussed how we can also use our strengths to be a good friend and help others when they have a problem. Students then came up with great suggestions to solve the problem in their given scenario.

Year 4/5/6 News ~ Well Being Exhibition

Next Thursday the senior part of the school will be turned into an exhibition space, where the students will display their Well Being toolboxes that they have been working on over the past few weeks.

As part of our whole school focus on Wellbeing, the Year 4/5 students were asked to identify ten items that were important to them, as part of their wellbeing. There is an open invitation on behalf of the senior students (Marty and the Year 4/5 and Denise and the 5/6's) for ALL parents and guardians to come along to the exhibition and see the work that the students have been doing in this space.

The magnificent Sacred Heartaroos! Won two games, drew another and lost one. Great performance team!
The magnificent Sacred Heartaroos! Won two games, drew another and lost one. Great performance team!

Last Friday some Year 5/6 students participated in a Soccer Tournament run by the Catholic schools of the northern region. The students made us all extremely proud; not by the fact that they experienced some success on the pitch, but were impressive the way they looked after each other, their positive attitude and their determination and resilience to fight on. A great day was had by all. Big thanks to Mark and James who organised the day which gave so much joy to those who attended.

''I felt like my heart was beating very fast, since I had to save shots from people younger than me to people in year 8. What made me calm, however, was that I could be with my friends playing soccer. I also heard from a Year 8 coach that I was a good goalie, which really made me happy. All I have to say is that, for a first time in an Interschool Soccer tournament, is that it was fun". Ethan

"It was a fun experience to play with my mates and to score goals as well. I was playing as a striker and scored a couple of goals! I really liked playing soccer and we played other schools, but we didn't make it to the finals', but I still enjoyed it. So that's why I like soccer".  Zane

"Soccer was very fun because you get to run a lot. There is a huge amount of space where we played. It was also fun because you get to kick the ball  as hard as you can. If you can just pass or kick it out of the opposition goal it feels good, because you're helping the team, that's why I enjoyed soccer". Enock
