Pink Sock Day

Join us this Saturday, 11 June for our 7th annual Pink Sock Day for the McGrath Foundation. The event will see all 1st teams representing the College wearing pink socks in their sporting fixtures against Scotch College at Waterford Playing Fields.

For a gold coin donation, we encourage the TC community to come down and wear a splash of PINK to support the Foundation. There will be a Pink Ball Raffle where you could win a Pink Footy signed by TC Old Boy and Essendon Football player, Nic Martin ('18), a pink morning tea and sausage sizzle.

Through Pink Sock Day we hope to support women’s health, focusing on our mothers and all the women who encourage us through school and life in general, all whilst educating young Trinity men to demonstrate a greater awareness and appreciation towards women's health. Most importantly, we aim to raise money to place McGrath Breast Care Nurses in communities right across Australia. Every donation big or small counts. If you would like to donate before the event, you can do so at the link below.

Year 9s test their Dragsters

The Year 9 Product Design class have been busy designing and constructing their very own CO2 dragster-cars this semester. Students have been tasked to create the quickest dragster, ensuring the design is sleek and light, allowing it to race a 20m track in under 2 seconds.

Propelled by a carbon dioxide cartridge, the dragsters are hooked onto a fishing line that prevents them from losing control when racing on the track. The project is a great way to demonstrate mechanical principles such as mass, force, acceleration and aerodynamics.

On Wednesday the class finally put their dragsters to the test, with Alex Patrascu taking out the win!

Year 11 Dinner Dance

At the conclusion of their Semester 1 exams, our Year 11s enjoyed a lovely night with their guests at the Year 11 Dinner Dance. Held at Beaumonde on the Point, the night was filled with lots of food, dancing and sparkles!

Prefect Perspectives

Trinity never fails to astound me. During what might seem just another ordinary week, there are just so many things going on!

This weekend will see Waterford splattered with pink in support of the McGrath foundation. A colour that males would typically turn their noses up at when it comes to fashion, sporting teams will don pink socks (if not guernseys as well!), and supporters are encouraged to wear as much pink as they can find in their wardrobe! Pink Sock Day not only raises much-needed funds to place McGrath Breast Care Nurses in communities across Australia, but is a remarkable display of appreciation for the women in our lives who mean so much to so many.

In an all-boys school like TC, we can become easily swallowed up by our male-to-male relationships. You'll often find the year 12's enjoying the presence of our fellow males far too much through incessant banter, guy-gossip, ping-pong face offs and making excessive, uncalled-for, obnoxious noises, and it can become easy to neglect the influence of women in our lives. So, this weekend, we come together as a community for Pink Sock Day to celebrate these astounding women who are often the ones to have taught us to stand on our own two feet. A big thanks to Lochie Taylor (2016 Head Prefect) and his Prefect group for introducing such a powerful and pertinent initiative.

Continuing on with the sporting theme, last Friday a dormant beast awoke. Despite not typically being a strong suit for us as a school, the boys from East Perth carved up the competition and Trigg beach, finishing with a respectable 3rd against coastal powerhouses Hale and Christ Church. Spearheaded by World Surf League hopefuls Ali Williams, Reyne Schneider and Adam Pearce, who are now widely feared in the Perth surfing community as the 'Trigg Trio', the boys took out the senior division, another display of the hidden talents you don't see on campus.

It's been a big week few weeks for our Year 11s, who have had a cascade of things going on. Last weekend marked the conclusion of their first set of 3-hour, ATAR exams, culminating in a stellar night out, a brisk walk away from TC at Beaumonde on the Point, for the 2022 Dinner Dance. This week they find themselves scattered across the Perth metropolitan area partaking in Christian Service - though somewhere close to home, thanks to the tireless efforts of Mrs Stewart!

As someone who values their academics very highly, this time at the end of the semester, however, around weeks 5-8, has always meant one thing.

Stress.

The holidays seem to be just over the hill, but the thought of this remains a hopeless mirage until such time as exams are finished. This very hill, more accurately described as a gloomy mountain of study, late nights, lack of sleep, butterflies, and several challenging multiple-hour performances - needs conquering, and will take some incredible resilience to do so.

So, if you are a parent or caregiver of a TC student throughout these times, I urge you to support your child throughout their difficult times in whatever way you can. Encourage them to always do their very best, but most importantly, ensure your loved ones know that mere digits on a sheet of paper do not define them as a person! What does is what kind of a person you are!

From me to you, have an awesome day and week!

God Bless.

James Watson
