Introducing Mrs. Katrina Wheaton

by Miss Adele

We have been delighted to welcome Mrs Katrina Wheaton to MCC in 2022.  Mrs Wheaton teaches visual arts across all year levels as well as technologies to our secondaries.

Mrs Wheaton completed her BA in Fashion Design at RMIT in 1998 and her Dip Ed at Latrobe University in 2006. Prior to joining the team at MCC, she taught at Genazzano FCJ College and Caroline Chisholm Catholic College.

"I love that there is always a story to tell. I love that art is a way all students can express themselves and let their personalities shine through. I love that there are so many different mediums and styles of art to discover and work with."

We asked Mrs. Wheaton some fun questions to help everyone get to know her better!

What is your dream vacation?

"I would love to go to Barcelona. See the amazing architectural work of Gaudi and eat tapas all day."

What do you like to do in your spare time?

"I love to walk my dog and have an interest in photography. I love taking photos of birds and animals. I also love drawing."

What sort of morning routine do you have to get jazzed for class?

"I like to get to school early, go through the lesson I have planned and set up my class. Can’t start the day without a coffee either!"

What do you love about teaching art?

"I love that there is always a story to tell. I love that art is a way all students can express themselves and let their personalities shine through. I love that there are so many different mediums and styles of art to discover and work with."

If you could pass on any wisdom to your students, what would you share?

"Always try your best. Learn what you can from every teacher and in every subject."

How do you remember all your students' names?

"I do find learning names a bit tricky, but having a mind for visuals, I always remember the work a student produces in my class. I will never forget!"

An interesting fact about you:

"An interesting fact about me is: I lived in the UK for 6.5 years when I was in my 20s."
