Commencement Mass

The official commencement of the school year for 2022 was marked by our entire College as we gathered at Oxford Falls to celebrate the Eucharist, led by SPX Old Boy Bishop Peter Ingham. On the Feast Day of the Chair of St Peter, that marks the place of Catholic Church leaders, specially St Peter being the first Pope, we brought to life the theme for our 2022 school year – “Opportunity and Growth”. After a two year wait we also joined together in full voice so that our worship involved singing hymns of praise.

Bishop Peter made mention to all present the idea of leadership and how this opportunity calls all of us to action. Our College theme is supported by the statement of “Aspire to Inspire.” This call to action was seen as a challenge, to make a difference in our lives and the lives of others, rather than waiting until it is too late to assist. As Bishop Peter so beautifully phrased, “we should aspire to inspire, before we expire.”

Our Psalm spoke of the Lord as our shepherd; someone who guides and protects and who leads to greener pastures. In his homily, Bishop Peter articulated for our community the idea of our families and teachers being very much like shepherds in our own lives. In this way, our families and teachers have our best interests at heart and who look to guide us in the direction that provides us with the best possible outcome. Further to this was the notion that Bishop Peter explained that if we can not do an action to help ourselves, then we ought, then, do an action that assists others.

As a College we are ever grateful to Bishop Peter for giving up time out of his schedule to celebrate Mass for us and mark the beginning of a new school year. I would also at this time wish to acknowledge the Performing Arts Department and students who provided the music for our celebration and provided a real sense of the sacred for our Mass.

College Chapel Mass

This Monday, 28 February marks the beginning of our fortnightly Chapel Masses. Mr Di Sano’s Year 9 Religion class will host our first Mass. We look forward to this commencing for 2022. Look out next week for photos of our Eucharistic Celebration.

Project Compassion Lenten Appeal

In keeping with the Lenten tradition of Almsgiving, our Lenten Giving program will resume this year, with the College once again supporting Project Compassion, run by Caritas Australia. This year’s theme is “For All Future Generations”, with collected funds going towards Caritas’ community development and emergency relief programs, in partnership with marginalised communities around the world.
