Senior School News

The year has started well for most students in Senior School with SACs in many VCE subjects coming up in the next couple of weeks. We need to remind students and families that if a VCE student is absent on the day of a SAC they are required to bring in a valid medical certificate in order to be graded on the SAC. If a student does not submit a valid medical certificate, then the student will be able to sit the makeup SAC the following Tuesday but only an S or N will be recorded and no graded assessment. This year absences due to COVID will be treated as approved absences.

Students who sit a SAC but do not satisfy the criteria for the SAC are therefore given an N (non-satisfactory) but they will be given the opportunity to re-sit the SAC in the hope that they can show understanding of the outcome being tested in order to be given an S, (satisfactory).  Please note, that the graded assessment will not change just the N will change to an S. If the student has satisfied the outcome addressed by the SAC through other work they may not be required to re-sit the SAC to achieve the S.

Students who miss a SAC or do not pass a SAC will be required to attend a SAC redemption session. The SAC redemption sessions will run after school on Tuesdays. It is important to realise that although these sessions are necessary, attendance at the sessions can put extra study pressure on students. The easiest way to pass VCE is to attend all SACs when possible and pass the first time. Studying for catch up sessions and redemptions makes it difficult for students to achieve good results in other subjects as the SACs will pile up.

If a student has 3 SACs in a day they should speak to their Year Level Coordinator or myself and we can reschedule one of the SACs to another day.

Year 12 News

Over the last few weeks, students have been busy meeting outcomes by completing SACs. If SACs are missed, then students will be put into the makeup/redemption session on Tuesday after school.  A medical certificate is required for this to occur. The only exception to this would be if the student has been isolating due to COVID.

The wellbeing team commenced the Lifestyle Skills Program on Tuesday 8th March. During the session, students completed a self-audit on their lifestyle, and discussed the importance of sleep, nutrition, exercise and routine.

The Year 12 formal is getting closer.  The Executive Committee members have been working tirelessly to ensure that the night is a great success with information and reminders being put into the google classroom that includes:

  • The Year 12 formal is an official school event and therefore normal school rules apply including monitoring guest behaviour during the function. Please note that guests will remain at the function until the official end time (10.30pm).
  • Permission has been granted for early dismissal (12.22pm) on the day of the formal.
  • Any guest aged 18 and over will need to show their vaccination certificate upon entry.  This is a requirement of Merrimu Receptions.

Lastly, a reminder that VCAA special examination arrangement forms are due in soon, to ensure that the application is received by VCAA by the due date.

Please do not hesitate to contact me at the college if you have any queries regarding your child.
