From the Assistant Principals

I am very pleased to see our students settling well in Term 1, making learning their focus in class and participating in various activities around the school including Year 7 Camps, Interschool Sports and in the numerous lunchtime clubs.

We had a successful international Women’s Day Celebration on 8th March. Students created a display of inspiring women in the library and our staff participated in an International Women’s Day quiz.

We look forward to Cultural Diversity Week. Our Inclusion leaders have already started organising activities for our students.

A few reminders:

  • As per DET requirements students must keep their mobile phones in their locked locker during the day.  Therefore, students cannot use their phones for canteen purchases. Please encourage your child to bring cash or a bank card should they wish to make any purchases at the school canteen.
  • If a student is late to school, a notification will be sent to you via XUNO. Please remember to send a note with your child or call the school if you know your child will be late to school.
  • If students have a valid reason to be out of uniform, please provide them a note so they can get a uniform pass from their Year Level Coordinator and carry it with them during the day.

House Swimming

The first House Competition of 2022 was held at GESAC on Thursday 10th February.  The weather was very kind and student participation was as high as ever.  Those who swum all earnt points for their house whilst those in fancy dress did the same from the side of the pool.

I would like to thank the staff and students who acted as officials throughout the day, without them the event would not be possible.

Winners of each event have qualified for the Division Final which will be held at Oakleigh Pool on 17th March.

Emerald House performed strongly in both the boys and girls competitions and were victorious in winning the shield at the end of the day.

Final points tally for the day was:

Student Leaders

There has been exceptional levels of interest in the Student Leadership positions at Glen Eira College for 2022.  We expect a lot from our student leaders and so it is a big responsibility and requires real commitment. Student leaders are expected to have an exemplary record regarding behaviour in class and in their demonstration of school values. The role of a student leader is to give a real voice to all students through weekly meetings, student surveys and the organisation of student run school events.

Last Wednesday morning we gathered as a whole school to acknowledge our 2022 student leaders through the presentation of badges.  Congratulations to all who have been appointed to leadership roles this year.
