A message from Emily

Principal – St John's Footscray

Dear Families

What a wonderful evening had by all at our Welcome Picnic last night. It was great to meet many of you. I really appreciate all the families that made the effort to come, reconnect with people and enjoy an ice cream and coffee. I am aware that this was the first opportunity for many of you to put a face to my name so I have put together a short video that gives a snapshot about me if you'd like to check it out below.

Today I had the privilege of escorting our school captains, Kasey and Evan, to St Patrick's Cathedral for the St Patrick's Day Mass. St John's Primary School was recognised for our 100 years of learning. Evan was selected to read a Prayer of Intercession and read beautifully. We hope to share more photos from this event on our 100 Years of St John's website soon.

Over the last fortnight we have officially named our leaders for eLearning and Family Engagement. I would like to publicly announce and congratulate Bess who has accepted the eLearning role and Dani who has accepted the Family Engagement role. I am very excited about what these two leaders will bring to these roles. Already Bess has launched our 100 Years of St John's website as well as started to build a new school website that we will launch in the coming months. Last week, with the leadership of Dani and a number of parents from our community had a mini working bee at the Farm and it is looking amazing. I would also like to thank Dani for all her preparation and promotion of our Welcome Picnic. Make sure you check out our social media for all the exciting updates and sharing of the great things happening in our community. Dani and Karen are also looking for parents to join our Centenary Committee.

I would like to take the opportunity to apologise for the lack of RAT kits that have been made available to our community. I have been in communication with the department that is overseeing this roll out and there has been delays at their warehouse and endeavour to have our testing kits delivered by the end of this week.  Once we have received a delivery of RAT kits we will distribute via your children at the earliest opportunity. We encourage all families to continue testing their children twice a week. We have had a few new cases in the community this week and we want to minimise the chance of transmission to others. We have also been supplied with a large number of children's masks. Each hub has been provided boxes of masks for children to use if needed.

Today we had a bike stolen from the farm. We will have our maintenance team look at fixing the fence where we believe they have accessed the bike.  We ask that any child who is riding to school ensure they also have a lock and chain to secure their bike to the bike stands to prevent any further thefts.

Tomorrow I will send home a letter informing the community about the School Advisory Board including the Terms of Reference. This letter will also seek people from the community to put forward their interest in being a part of our School Advisory Board.

Wishing you well,

Emily
