Technology and Applied Studies

Year 7

Year 7 Digital Technology students have been given a task to create a product using Illustrator and the Laser Cutter, whilst the Agricultural / Food Technology classes are making Safety Videos about the Agricultural Plot and Food Technology area using WeVideo.

Year 8

Year 8 have been consolidating and expanding their learning from last year. Students have used the Inquiry Process to design and make a Night Light using timber and the Laser Cutter, e-textiles to create a soft toy with light. Finally, students have researched how engineering can enhance and improve individual lives.

Year 9

Timber - Classes have familiarised themselves with the timber marking, measuring and cutting tools. Students will construct a serving tray/chopping board next term.

Food - Students have investigated the influence of other food cultures in Australia. Their task this term is to incorporate Bush Food into an International Cuisine.

Metal -  Students are completing their sheet metal toolbox and will look to finish this early next term before beginning the construction of their campfire BBQ.

Agriculture - Students have been busy preparing meat birds for the Sydney Royal Easter Show. This has involved feeding, weighing, maintaining and washing the birds from day old to maturity at 7 weeks. Additionally, students have been busy planting Autumn vegetables and taking advantage of our brand new greenhouse.

Year 10

Timber -  Students are nearing completion of their Clock, this is their first Assessment Task for the year, and will look to complete early next term.

Food -  How food consumption affects our bodies and activity levels has been the focus for Year 10. Practical tasks have included Pasta Bolognese, Popcorn Chicken and Bliss Balls.

Agriculture -  Students have been exploring the world of farm management and the various factors responsible for making smart decisions on farms. After taking over some real estate on the school oval, a cell grazing system has been established for the school’s cattle while we await the arrival of our calf in late April.

Graphics -  Students have been enjoying the challenge of isometric and pictorial graphical drawings, this has allowed the use of a number of learnt techniques.

Metal - Students are nearing completion of the marking, measure and hand tool components for their motorbike quick lifts. The next stage is the assembly using plasma cutting, OXY and MIG welding. They will have the opportunity to design and produce a project of their own choice for their next task.

Information Software Technology - Students have been looking at automated control in Society. They have begun using the Tinkercad application to create, test and simulate electronic circuits, which will be used to create code that enables them to control an Arduino board.

Stage 6

Design and Technology - Year 11 students have focusing on what a designer is and the factors that affect design. They have looked at the design of a shoe box describing the manufacturing process and the number of design factors. The class has been busy working on their Case Study on an Australian Design.

Year 12 have begun their major design portfolios.  The ideas are flowing and we are beginning to prototype. This year there is a wide variety of projects being managed; from a Vegan market stall through to an electric Ukulele. Once again, this year's cohort is taking on some big challenges to solve some real world problems.

Agriculture - Year 11 students recently visited a farm in Collingullie,  they observed and assessed the dynamic nature of a mixed farming enterprise. As part of this term assessment, students will apply this to their own farm of choice.

Year 12 are completing their plant production component of the HSC course. Students have been exploring how farmers manage environmental constraints such as the recent flooding, drought and bushfires.
