From the Music room

From Dan & Eleanor, Music Specialists

All students have been busy in their weekly Music sessions playing and making music together.

Preps are working on singing together and keeping the beat. It’s a big challenge for our newest, littlest students as they really have to work together, listening and concentrating, and they are doing really well. The past couple of weeks, we have started introducing percussion instruments which are a (drum roll)…. real hit 😊

Year 1 and 2 students are using their knowledge of rhythm to collaborate on making rhythm patterns for different characters and creatures. We are starting to use instruments to play our rhythm patterns, thinking about the sounds that our characters and creatures might make. Moving ahead, we’ll be creating musical narratives/stories based on these characters, their sounds and rhythms.

Our Year 3 and 4 students are looking at structure and form in music and have started working together to create structured pieces based on rhythm patterns and instrument choices.

Year 5 and 6 students have started working in groups to create musical projects using the GarageBand app on iPads. Students will be creating their own sounds using a variety of everyday objects to create percussion loops and soundscapes. The seeds of this project will grow and develop into multitrack pieces throughout this term and into Term 2.
