Dear parents and carers,
We have had another busy two weeks! There is a real buzz around the school, and it has been lovely to see all the students' smiling faces learning and synergising together. I have been lucky enough to spend some time in each class to see what students are learning. Our Year 3 to 6 students have been developing persuasive pieces of writing and are very convincing with their arguments. The 1 and 2 students have been writing some vivid recounts and our Foundation students are learning to read, write and spell new words.
Public Holiday and Curriculum Day
A reminder that Monday 14th of March is a public holiday and Tuesday 15th of March is a Curriculum Day, so students are not required at school. Due to a shortage in staff at the before and after school care program, this program will not run. The school wishes everyone a lovely, safe, and relaxing weekend.
Badge Presentation Assembly
On Friday 4th of March, we presented our school leaders with their badges. It was fabulous to see so many parents on the day in our first official assembly of the year. Thank you for coming to support your children and starting to rebuild our community spirit after a challenging and isolating two years. Each Friday assembly will commence at 3:10 and parents, friends and carers are welcome.
Annual Implementation Plan
The school has been working on its Annual Implementation Plan for 2022. A series of goals are established for the year according to the four-year School Strategic Plan and Department of Education Guidelines. Two Key Improvement Strategies for this year include:
- To support both those who need extra assistance and those who have thrived to continue to extend their learning.
- Effectively mobilise available resources to support students’ wellbeing and mental health.
Students versus Teachers
Last week we had our first students versus teachers’ game. The Year 5-6 class played a game of dodgeball against the teachers, which was a lot of fun. The whole school came along to cheer, we had music, commentary, and a lot of laughs. The students had the final laugh, beating the teachers. Mr D and Sam took no prisoners but couldn’t lead the teachers to victory.
Yesterday the teachers lined up against the 3-4 students to fight for the Le Page Soccer World Cup. It was a hard-fought battle, with Mr S scoring 3 goals, one an incredible header. Bentleigh scored 2 goals for the students and was best on ground for them. The teachers were overall victors and redeemed themselves after last week's loss to the Year 5-6s.
To finish off the game, some of the students had a penalty shootout against me. I have to say, I went in a little too confident. As Mr Bradley put it so eloquently “the students smashed Miss Mason!”
School Song🎶
If you were able to attend our assembly last week you would have heard our brand-new school song. I would like to thank Mr and Mrs Earl for writing the music and lyrics. Late last year Mr Earl suggested we have a school song to develop connectedness and school pride. If you haven't heard the school song, I suggest you ask your child if they can remember the lyrics and sing you, our song. The lyrics are:
At Le Page we love to learn
And love to work and play.
At Le Page there’s lots of things
We learn throughout the day.
The teachers see the Leader in Me
And we can see it too.
You can see the 7 habits
In everything we do.
So join in the chorus
As we come together and sing.
Every child here
Has a gift they bring.
We’re all special in our own way.
And we’re gonna’ be a leader today!
Yes, we’re gonna’ be a leader today!
Working Bee
A reminder that Wednesday 23rd of March is our working bee from 4:00 - 5:30. There will be lots of work to do including, cleaning the yard, weeding, sweeping areas, and contacting books for the library. If you can spare any time at all, please email the school at le.page.ps@education.vic.gov.au
Easter Market
Please share the news far and wide that our Easter Market is on Friday 1st of April. It was such a success last year and our social and fundraising team have been working tirelessly to make this year’s event as successful. We need your support for another great event.
Thank you again to the school community for your continued support while George recovers. It has been a real team effort and makes me proud to be part of an amazing community.
Kind regards,
Courtney Mason
