Spectacular 5/6

Grade 5/6

Term 1 Week 6 2021 - Friday 11th of March 2022

Message from the Teacher:

Halfway through the first term already and 5/6A are really starting to hit their straps! Book Clubs have started with everyone, teachers included, having to read their books and making sure we don’t read too much and that we do our book club roles! We also had one of the most hotly contested dodgeball games of all time which resulted in one of the most controversial finishes in Le Page history. A great way to build some teamwork amongst the class seems to be letting them attack their teachers! Tee-Ball is also going well this year, with the boys remaining undefeated and the girls securing their first win.

What have we been up to?

In weeks 5 and week 6, our whole class of leaders have had many different opportunities to show the 7 Habits and be the role models Le Page needs them to be. The Green Team is thriving, beautifying and improving the school with their fantastic ideas thanks to Ms Anna. The School Captains and Sports Captains received their badges in a blindingly hot badge ceremony last Friday. Finally, the whole class has embraced the effort to keep the school grounds neat, tidy and safe by collecting rubbish and setting a great example for the little kids.

On Wednesday we celebrated International Women’s Day, a chance to remember and celebrate all of the amazing achievements by the women who are important to us and who we see as role models.  Keep Going 5/6A!

In writing we are writing persuasive essays that feature creative language, persuasive devices and a strong opinion. We have learnt how to write an effective introduction and how also to incorporate our opinion and support it with evidence.

In reading as well as Book Club, we have been doing several reading comprehension exercises so that we can analyse a text and use information from it to support our persuasive writing. We will continue to develop these research skills this week.

In Maths we have begun to look at different ways we can express numbers and the relationships that form between numbers, whether they are factors or multiples or if they display similar patterns.

Learning Intentions:

Week 7 & 8

Reading: We will continue to explore how author’s make their work persuasive, to support our writing unit.

Writing: In writing students will be continuing to practice and produce interesting persuasive texts that draw their reader in with powerful language and persuasive techniques, such as rhetorical questions.

Maths: During week 6 and 7 we will be continuing with Place Value, especially focusing on factors, multiples and problem-solving techniques.

Inquiry: We will continue to explore the Australian Parliamentary system and how our country is governed, getting ready for establishing a mock parliament in weeks 9 and 10.
