St John’s Staff/Student Buddy program

In our efforts to promote a safe, supportive learning environment for all students we are engaging in a staff/student buddy program again this year. This program will help us continue to foster positive, respectful relationships and allow staff to make connections with a student they wouldn’t usually teach. All staff will be assigned a student buddy consisting of all Year 6 students (supporting them in their final year of primary school) and all new students to the school in year 1 - 5, supporting them in their transition to St John's.

Staff and Student Buddy Interactions may include:

  • Joining or inviting your buddy to eat their lunch with you at an eating time once a month (either in their classroom or yours)
  • Checking in with your buddy when you see them on the yard/around the school
  • Checking in prior to time of special events (eg. confirmation time for the Year 6s, asking them about their activities on school holidays)
  • Playing a card game/board game during lunch

There was great feedback from the students involved in this last year and it is another important way to support our students at St John's.
