“We learned about honesty and integrity - that the truth matters... that you don't take shortcuts or play by your own set of rules... and success doesn't count unless you earn it fair and square.” Michelle Obama

Dear Families,

As you know, John Hendry OAM has been working with us this year with Relationship based Education (RbE). He talks about the five key elements of a relationship: trust, forgiveness, integrity, hope, and compassion. John’s work has the full endorsement of Parents Victoria. On the Parents Victoria website, there is some great information about John’s work with us here at OGPS. Click here to find out more.

Integrity is the intention to do the right thing. Integrity is doing what you say you will do and acting in ways that are fair. When mistakes are made, people repair the relationship through forgiveness and the trusting understanding that each intends to act in ways to strengthen the relationship.

Integrity is the third element of a relationship that forms the basis of Relationship based Education. When we have integrity, we may experience feelings of peace and we may feel good within ourselves. Integrity can be a powerful attribute as we become known as people who keep our word and always do what others would expect us to do. Here are a few fun ideas you might like to do at home to help foster the skill of integrity.

  • Play ‘Two Truths and a Lie’ where you say two things that are true about yourself and one thing that is not. The others must guess which one is the lie.
  • Tell your kids a personal story about integrity.
  • Should you always tell the truth? Is there a time when you should not tell the truth? Discuss.
  • Draw a picture of what integrity means.
  • Some say integrity is doing the right thing when nobody is watching. What does this mean to you? Discuss.

“The supreme quality for leadership is unquestionably integrity. Without it, no real success is possible, no matter whether it is on a section gang, a football field, in an army, or in an office.” Dwight D. Eisenhower

Project ROCKIT

This week Project ROCKIT ran a workshop with our year six students. The focus was online awareness and safety. Nick and Fatima were extremely engaging presenters and as the students had attended a similar workshop in year five, they were able to build on their learning. Our students are well educated on online safety and privacy, and on how to build a positive and respectful online profile. Both presenters commented on our student group being polite and good listeners, with many contributing to group discussions.
