Prep Orientation

As a part of our Junior School orientation portfolio, K4 students have begun spending time with current Prep students.  Our Orientation Program provides a series of activities that gives our K4  students (moving into Prep with us for 2023) experiences to help them adapt to the formalised school setting. We provide intentional learning and socialisation experiences to best support our K4 students on their learning journey.

Our K4 and Prep staff are already sharing their professional expertise to ensure each student feels success as a learner, nurtured as an individual and valued and respected as Oakleigh Grammar students.

These orientation experiences set the scene for students to show off their skills within literacy, STEAM and group work.  Building new friendships, familiar faces and a sense of belonging at Oakleigh Grammar.

Continuous Reporting

Our pilot Year Groups, Prep, and Year 5 have received communication about what Continuous Reporting looks like in the Junior School. It has been so rewarding to listen to our students talk about sharing their learning, their successes, and their goals at home via the Xuno platform.

Continuous reporting or progressive/ongoing feedback refers to the process of teachers providing timely and targeted feedback to students about their learning progress in a subject area. This practice takes place in our classrooms daily, and we are transitioning to sharing ‘snapshots’ of this via our online system, Xuno, making the feedback and assessment information visible to parents.

Parent feedback suggests there is a greater need for an opportunity for students to reflect, respond and improve their learning prior to receiving the Semester reports.

Continuous Reporting enables teachers to provide feedback either written or visual, along with their assessment with the option to upload annotated student work directly to parents.

Fortnightly ‘snap shots’ of learning over a range of curriculum areas will be shared over the Semester. This will facilitate the recording and reporting of student progress aligned with our school’s assessment philosophy.

At the conclusion of each Semester, families will continue to receive progression points to represent learning outcomes against Australian Curriculum standards and a homegroup comment.

Oakleigh Grammar follows The Australian Curriculum. All outcomes shared are derived from the content within ACARA https://v9.australiancurriculum.edu.au/. I have included the link to the website if you would like to explore the curriculum areas and content for each Year level and representation of the progression in learning.
