Principal's Update

Hi everyone,

It is hard to believe that we are already halfway through this term! Students and teachers have been working extremely hard and should be very proud of the effort put in and the work produced. Our literacy work has been a highlight for the term, with lots of excitement building around our Poetry Competition and Spelling Bee.

Poetry Gallery Walk

Over the term classes have been practising a variety of poetry styles, such as Haikus, narrative poems and simile poems to name a few. Individual students were then asked to write a poem in their chosen style. Students worked hard to draft, edit and produce their finished poem and should be very proud of the work they put in. To celebrate students work we then held a Poetry Gallery Walk on Friday 12th August. All classes were able to visit other classrooms to hear students read their poems aloud and showcase their work. It was wonderful to see students giving lots of positive feedback and celebrating the work of others. One outstanding poem from each class was chosen as the winner, with the author receiving an award at assembly and the privilege of having their work displayed in a local business.

Spelling Bee

Over the last few weeks, students have been busy practising their spelling to be ready for the upcoming spelling bees. Check our facebook book page for the upcoming dates for our spelling bees. Parents are welcome to attend. These will be held in the multi-purpose room.

Science

This week we’ve had the school favourite ‘Nanna B’ conduct science lessons in all classes. We all love her visits and the noise and excitement coming from the Multi-Purpose Room suggests once again the kids had a ball. We can’t thank Nanna B and Christie enough for the fun and knowledge they give to our school. We are forever thankful to the both of them!

School Arrival Times

Over the last few weeks students have been arriving at school too early, and frequently before staff have arrived. Please note that the school gates are not opened until 8:10am. Staff supervision of the yard does not commence until 8:45am, which is the recommended time that students arrive at school. If you need your child to arrive at school prior to this time the YMCA Before and After School Care Program is open from 6:30am.

Uniform

School uniform at Cobram Primary School is compulsory, as per our Uniform Policy. We have seen an increase in students coming to school out of uniform and would like to remind parents that bottle green school jumpers and green pants/shorts/skorts for girls and grey pants/shorts for the boys are compulsory uniform items. It is often jumpers and pants that are the most common non-uniform items worn. Please ensure students are in full school uniform each day. If you have any concerns about uniform or need to purchase more, please contact the office.

We have a very busy second half of Term 3 with the Spelling Bee, Book Week, Book Week Dress-Up Parade, Fathers Day Breakfast, Athletics Day, AFL clinic and Footy Colours Day all scheduled in the next few weeks.

Have a great finish to the week!
