Child Safety Standards – Assurance from Kildare Education Ministries

On Friday 22 July as a school we were asked to demonstrate to Kildare Education Ministries all of the processes and procedures that we have in place to ensure that all children and young people in our care are safe.

The expectation from this assurance process was that we could identify how we are:

  • Making reports to the government authorities that are organised, clear and that any documentation is accurate and complete.
  • Managing the risk to the young people in our care by having processes in place to protect them.
  • Providing professional learning opportunities for our staff that allows them to keep abreast of all of the changes
  • Informing all of our students of what we are doing to keep them safe.  This also makes them aware of the processes they have if they wish to raise their concerns.

We continue to do work in this space and we will keep all of our families up to date on our progress with our priority always being the young people in our care.

Information from the Community Police about Vaping

Last week the Brimbank Community Police provided all schools in the area information regarding vaping that they have requested we share with our school community.

Please note some of the key points from the information:

  • The dangers and concerns regarding vaping
  • How frequently young people are using the devices
  • The impact of the presence of nicotine in the devices and the impact that this can have on one’s health

Please take a moment to read the detailed notice from the Police attached:

Uniform Reminders

As we enter the middle part of term 3 and certainly the colder parts of the season, we do remind all students of the expectations in relation to school uniform.

These reminders include:

  • Wearing the correct uniform as per the timetabled classes
  • Wearing our school tie with our winter uniform – this is a compulsory item
  • Hoodies or Kathmandu jackets are not to be worn to school
  • The school tracksuit pants should not be worn as a substitute for our school pants
  • False nails and facial piercings are not part of the uniform

Detailed uniform expectations that are on the welcome pages of both the SEQTA Learn and SEQTA Engage pages. Please refer to this if you feel the need to check any of the expectations.

Tuning into Teens – Parental Program

The College is pleased to be able to provide the opportunity to participate in the Tuning into Teens – Parental Program. This program, facilitated by an experienced coach in Anne Hubbard, is focused on supporting families as they learn to understand what is happening to their young people and adolescents in this ever-changing world that we live in.

The program provides parents the opportunity to understand and gauge what is happening for their children and how best to support them to manage their emotions.

Attached to this edition of the Marian News is a flyer to explain how the program works.

We have also distributed this via Operoo and SEQTA Direct Messages.

This is a very worthwhile and valuable program and we are very pleased to endorse the program to all.

If you have any questions regarding the program, please contact me on the school number or send me a Direct Message.

Note from the Office regarding students who are unwell

Reminder to all of our families that if you are calling to advise us of your daughter’s absence that we have a designated absentee line and this is the best option for notifying us of the absence. In the morning staff in the office can be very busy receiving other calls and they may have guests at reception so please use the absence line if your daughter is going to be away.

Thank-you for your support with this process.
