When will the Transition to School Program occur?

Fairvale's Transition to School Program will occur for the students on:

Friday 20th of October (Term 4, Week 2)

Friday 27th November (Term 4, Week 3)

Friday 3rd November (Term 4, Week 4)

Friday 10th November (Term 4, Week 5)

Friday 17th November (Term 4, Week 6)

Friday 24th November (Term 4, Week 7)

All sessions run from 9:15-10:15am.

How can I help my child prepare for school?

Starting school is an important and wonderful milestone.

-Actively involve your child in conversations about starting school.

-Involve your child in the process of selecting a lunch box, bag and school shoes to create excitement.

-Talk about all the wonderful things they will learn and friends they will make.

My child has a known allergy, what should I do?

It is important for you to inform the school if your child has asthma or allergies – not just those diagnosed as severe or food allergies. Read more information here.

What should I do if my child is sick?

Going to school every day is important, and Kindergarten will set your child up for the rest of their schooling. However, sometimes your child may become sick at school or may be too sick to attend.

If your child misses school due to illness, religious reasons or family circumstances, talk to your child's teacher and remember to send a signed note explaining the reason for their absence.

If your child arrives at school late or needs to leave early, you will need to go to the office to sign your child in or out.

If you're having difficulty getting your child to school every day and on time, talk to the teacher or principal.

What food should I pack for break times?

Eating at school will be a different experience for your child compared with eating at home or at preschool.

Tips to help your child

Pack food that is easy to open, easy to eat and not messy.
Pack food that stores well without refrigeration or reheating and will be fresh when it's time to consume.
Write your child’s name on their lunch box, water bottle and any other containers.
Include a frozen drink bottle to keep food cold. Wrap it in a tea towel in case it leaks.
Use insulated lunch boxes or cooler bags.
Avoid using plastic wrap because children find it hard to pull apart. Paper bags are better for the environment too.
Pack tissues or paper around fruit so it won’t bruise.
Remind your child to wash their hands before eating and to use the toilet at recess and lunch.
Pack a water bottle for your child each day and remind them that they can also get water from the taps or bubblers throughout the day.
If your child can order food from their school canteen, help them identify healthy food and drink choices.

Recess and lunch ideas

Cut fruit into pieces and put them in a small container. Squeeze some lemon juice on apples or pears to stop them from going brown.
Cut up vegetables such as carrots, celery and cucumber and put them in a resealable plastic bag. Put dips or yoghurt in a separate container.
Make wholemeal muffins and freeze them.
Try different breads, such as rolls, pita, wholegrain or tortilla wraps.
If using tomato in a sandwich, slice it thinly and place the slices between other fillings to stop the sandwich from going soggy.
Cook a little extra dinner and save some for lunch the next day. You could make quiche, homemade pizza slices, salmon patties, roast vegetables, noodle salads or sausages. A freezer brick or frozen drink can help keep this food fresh.

Will my child receive homework?

In Term 1 as children settle into the new environment and routines of Fairvale, we will send home some work which will allow students to reinforce concepts being taught in the classroom.

Part way through Term 2, students will also be sent home with a text to read.

Students receive homework on a fortnightly basis.

How do I contact the teacher?

Your children's teacher is always happy to communicate with you. You can contact the school office on 9724 3470 to organise a meeting with the teacher.

Each teacher will also create a Seesaw account for your child, where they will keep you updated with work samples produced by your child, upcoming events and can answer questions that you have.

We also hold a Meet the Teacher evening early on in the year and conduct parent-teacher interviews in Term 2 and 4 to discuss your child's progress.

How will my child get notes?

Your child's classroom teacher will hand out all notes to students each Wednesday. Spare notes are also located outside the front office and on the school app.

All notes should be returned with the students name and class to the front office. Please also ensure that you have signed all notes.

How can I get involved?

Parent Group meetings are held in the school's community hub on Thursdays starting at 9:15am. All are welcome.

We also hold weekly K-2 Assemblies every Friday from 9:15 - 9:45am where we celebrate student achievement.
