Junior School

It’s been another busy week in the Junior School. This week we took time to engage in NAIDOC week activities, and learn more about our First Nations peoples. Early Years at Wentworth Falls and Springwood students had a wonderful time doing some hands on activities related to learning about Indigenous people. Some of the favourite activities were exploring beautiful picture books in Dharug language. Mrs Smith from the Senior School came and shared about NAIDOC week from her perspective as an Indigenous woman.

Stage 2 and Stage 3 students joined the Senior School students for a special Assembly. They listened so respectfully to Aunty Jacinta, our special guest, who spoke to our students about how they can “Get up, Stand up, Show up” to support our First Australians. In a very short speech, and a moving song, we were captivated by her wisdom and knowledge. The students also loved participating in the cake stall and Great Book Swap, to raise money for Indigenous Literacy programmes.

I’ve been busy meeting many new little people who will come along to Wentworth Falls and Springwood in our Pre-K and Kindergarten classrooms. They always have lots to say when they meet us and they love touring the School and seeing where all the playing and learning takes place. All of our students are a delightful and welcoming community whenever we have visitors or new students.

Over the next few weeks we will have lots on – Science Week will be exciting and something classes will do special activities for, and of course Book Week is on the horizon in Week 6. Children and parents might want to start “Dreaming with their eyes open” about book parade costumes very soon! We’ll get more information out to you in the next few weeks as this event is always a favourite.

Junior School Sport

Basketball - Term 3, Week 2

The game started well for the BMGS Swish. They won the jump and were fouled straight away, with Isaac scoring both his free throws. We continued to outplay the opposition, with the score 16-0 at halftime. In the second half the team were asked to play mercy defence, retreating to halfway, which allowed for a closer more competitive game. Nevertheless, the BMGS Swish put on a shooting display to win the game 29-4. Congratulations to all the players for such a huge team effort.

Mr Dillon Hunter, Coach

On Tuesday, 26th July, the BMGS Stars enjoyed a little less training time so they could play two longer games against the other teams. Unfortunately we only had four players, so that meant that no one could be subbed off. The students had some great runs with the ball and managed to win both of their games, which was a first for the team. They were such good sports, making sure they everyone got to have a chance at shooting goals.
