FOUNDATION | 100 DAYS CELEBRATION

Today our Foundation students celebrated their first 100 days of Primary School. To celebrate this fantastic occasion, students participated in a range of exciting activities throughout the day. Students came to school in their pyjamas and enjoyed a breakfast together in the stadium. They then played lots of fun games and feasted on pizza and ice-cream for lunch.

YEARS 3 - 6 | HOUSE ATHLETICS

Our Year 3-6 students all participated in the House Athletics at the George Street Athletics track on Monday. The students enjoyed taking part in a variety of activities including relays, shot put, high jump, long jump and running races. Congratulations to Streeton who was the winning house. Well done to everyone for their participation and supporting their house team. Thank you to Mr James Will and Mrs Emily Collins, teachers and the many parents and volunteers who assisted and went to support their children. A great day was had by all.  See the sports page for further detail and photos.

TRASH FREE TUESDAY

We had our first Trash Free Tuesday this week and it was great to see so many students bring trash free snacks and lunch to school. We would like to congratulate 2SK as they had the least amount of trash for the day with only 6 pieces in total! To celebrate their success they get to have our Trash Free Tuesday mascot, Ernie. We look forward to having our second Trash Free Tuesday next week.

STAFF PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

On Thursday, the leadership team and 9 teachers participated in the first day of a term long professional development around Professional Learning Communities (PLCs). PLCs are an approach to school improvement in which groups of teachers work collaboratively at the school level to improve student learning and wellbeing outcomes. The quality of teaching is the most powerful lever schools have to increase student learning and wellbeing. Evidence from high-performing school systems around the world shows teaching quality improves when teachers work together. The Victorian PLC initiative will provide training and ongoing support to implement PLCs in all Victorian government schools.

The Victorian PLC model builds the cultures, processes, and practices in schools that privilege success for every student. The model facilitates an ongoing sharing of knowledge, collaborative planning and targeted teaching that accelerates student learning and wellbeing outcomes.

YEAR 4 | WERRIBEE ZOO EXCURSION

Last Friday the Year 4 students went on a journey to Werribee open range Zoo. This was a part of our provocation for our new inquiry unit ‘How the World Works’. Students had the opportunity to participate in an educational session where they learnt about the types of animals within our world and their adaptations that help them survive in the wild. Students walked around the zoo and experienced many animals from around the world in their enclosures. We were absolutely thrilled to participate in the Safari tour where we had the opportunity to go into the open range area and observed the many animals and their interactions with one another. This was a fantastic day and we are looking forward to using our new knowledge from this excursion within our inquiry unit. Thank you to Werribee Zoo for providing our students with a fantastic experience!
