News from the Art Room
Grade F/1
The F/1 students have had a wonderful start to Term 3, busily learning all about portraiture. This week they have been looking at facial features while practising their Spanish. During this lesson, they looked at where to place and how to 'dibujar ojos, nariz, boca y orejas' (draw eyes, nose, mouth and ears). Next week, students will build on their knowledge of portraiture by learning about the Archibald Prize. They will also learn how to use basic watercolour techniques to paint the self portraits they drew this week.
Grade 2/3
As we draw closer to Newlands Primary School production, 'From Trash to Treasure', the Grade 2/3 students have been designing images to be used for the productions programs and tickets. They have busily sketched the main characters, drawn various settings and retold major events of the script. As the excitement builds students have been able to use their imagination to bring characters to life. So many, innovative, artistic and colourful examples of Buster, Candy, Broom and Teddy have been created in the art room.
Grade 4-6
Students in 4-6 have also been involved in the school concert preparations by learning about typography to create a lettering design to be added to a t-shirt for fundraising. The chosen designs will also be used as the title to accompany the images drawn by the grade 2/3 on programs and tickets for the school concert.
As part of this unit, students have been designing and researching different fonts while exploring ways in which lettering and its design can be used to convey emotion. They learnt how colour, line, space and size can make their letters visually appealing.
