We welcome Mr Mitch Howe, our new Library Technician who started with us last term.

Library Monitor Award

Congratulations to Estelle (Year 7) for the ‘Best Library Monitor - Term 2’ award. We thank all our Library Monitors for all the hard work they do in making library displays, shelving, keeping the library tidy and running smoothly.

Library & Information Week 2022

Last week the library celebrated Library and Information Week. The 2022 theme ‘Rewrite Renew Reimagine’ encourages libraries to feature stories re-written from another’s perspective. Our display featured texts adapted to the graphic novel format and students' work that had reimagined classic stories such as ‘The Wizard of Oz’ and ‘Little Red Riding Hood’.

CBCA Book Week 2022 - Dreaming with eyes open…

Book Week celebrations will be held from the 22nd - 26th August and we will be celebrating with lots of fun activities including an author talk by James Phelan for our Junior School students. Find out more about James here. All of the books in the Older Readers shortlist for the Book of the Year award are available to borrow from the library.

Glen Eira Council - My Brother Jack Awards

The Awards recognise the outstanding literary achievements of people who live, work or study in Glen Eira. Prizes are awarded for short stories and poetry in the categories of Primary; Junior Secondary; Senior Secondary; and Open. More information can be found here. The My Brother Jack Awards are a celebration of local writing talent and the stories that shape our community. We would love to see as many entries as possible from GEC students. There are some fantastic prizes to be won! Students can talk to their English teacher or library staff if they’d like to know more.

Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge

It’s great to see our students embrace reading and the Challenge which is on now until 2nd September. We have had many students already complete the challenge and many books read! All students who meet the Challenge will receive a certificate of achievement signed by the Victorian Premier and former Premiers and go into a draw to win prizes. To read the Premier’s letter to parents, view the booklist and for more information, visit www.education.vic.gov.au/prc. Students can contact library staff if they have any questions or issues.
