Bastille Day

The beginning of term 3 has been very busy in our French classes!

The school celebrated Bastille Day on 14th July. Bastille is the French national day and on this occasion French people commemorate the storming of the Bastille in 1789, a significant event in the French Revolution. In French, students had the opportunity to learn more about the significance and the traditions of Bastille Day.

On that day, the Crepes for Change truck visited our school. Staff and students were able to enjoy some delicious French crepes. Crepes for Change is a social enterprise and all the profit they make is used to support programs aimed at reducing homelessness.

French Model United Nations

Students in Year 11 French participated in the French Model United Nations on Thursday 21st July. Our students were in teams of four and represented Costa Rica and Romania. They debated the important topic of Climate Change by doing a speech on their country’s position statement on the topic in French. They proudly answered and asked questions to other countries about their position and amended some clauses as well and all in French!

Congratulations to Hayden Cormick, Parmis Daneshwar, Gus David, Tilly Delord, Amiya Panwar and Jay Trickey for their excellent French speaking and writing skills in a real life situation! Eden Thomas, Alma-Mia Marret and Tyler Wisdom also helped with the preparation leading up to the event.
