From the Junior School Captains

As this is the first newsletter the Junior School Leaders are contributing to, we would like to take the opportunity to introduce ourselves to the school community:

ZACH 9E

Junior School Captain

Hi everyone! My name is Zach and I’m one of the Junior School Leaders for 2022. On the weekends, I love learning French and doing three hours of dancing, singing & acting at a theatre school called Stage Left (yes, I know it’s a handful!), and in my spare time, I enjoy writing articles and stories and designing ads (no, they’re not as boring as one might think!). As a Year 7 at GEC in 2020, I joined the Japanese Immersion program and have enjoyed continuing my bilingual education ever since. 2020 was a year many spent holed up in lockdown, so when 2021 came, I was eager to join both the SRC and Inclusion Leader committees and am still a part of them to this day. My vision for this year is to promote student voice within the school community - giving people the opportunity to have a say and make important decisions.

JAMIE 9B

Junior School Captain

Hello, my name is Jamie Katic and I am one of the Junior School Leaders this year. I love to watch movies and enjoy looking up at the stars with my telescope.  I have been a part of the SRC for three years now and have taken part in many extracurricular activities as well. By getting to take part in these activities I have been able to become more involved in the GEC community and meet lots of great people. I applied for this position not only because I feel I could contribute to change in the school but more to continue to help the school grow and flourish within itself and the wider community. During 2022 I would like to see students have a greater influence within the school and create a school environment that they would like to be in.

HASINI 9C

Junior School Captain

Hello everyone My name is Hasini Teddu, I am also one of the 2022 Junior school Captains.  A little bit about myself is that I love movies, I like to watch them in different languages while saying that I like to learn different languages. I also like to express myself through my art. Besides Art, I do dance every Saturday and sometimes during the week. Other than junior school captain, I also joined the school council last year and SRC in 2020. The reason why I joined these is because I always like to be a part of the school, not just the learning but the community. This year my vision is to give the opportunity to let students have a say in what their ideal school community would look like.

ADI 9B

Junior School Captain

Hi everyone, my name is Adi and I am one of the Junior School Captains for 2022. Outside of school, I participate in activities such as cricket and indoor cricket. It may sound like the same thing but trust me they are different. You can probably tell from my out of school activities that I’m a bit of a cricket fanatic but I’m also really into movies. My favourite genres are action and suspense, though most of the movies I watch are non-english. I’m vegetarian and a passionate foodie. My favourite cuisine is Indian and my favourite food is anything with paneer (type of cheese) in it. I’ve been in the SRC from year 7 onwards and I’ve really enjoyed sharing and creating ideas with students younger and older than me. This has given me a clear perspective of what the needs and wants are across the junior school. I feel like I can apply my experience from the SRC to build on the vision for 2022. My vision for 2022 is to elevate the student voice and improve the atmosphere for us students to make us feel happier and more motivated. Let’s make this year a memorable one!
