On Tuesday 13th August, 19 Greenvale Primary School students plus Mr Scollo and myself joined students from 14 other schools at Somers Camp. Every two years, Greenvale Primary School is invited to attend the 9 day camp as part of Hume North and South district. 160 students in grade 5 and 6 (80 boys and 80 girls) plus 9 teachers spend the time completing outdoor education activities and getting to know others from different schools.
The students spent their time rock climbing, boating, orienteering, bike riding and bush cooking. They also attended environmental studies lessons where they looked after animals, performed in drama performances and went on the challenge swing.
It was a great experience for the students with all of them learning new things, facing challenges and making new friends.
From the students:
Somers Camp was very good as it was a good way to make new friends- Canyon
I climbed like a monkey to the top of the rock climbing wall- Mischa
Somers Camp is a very unique, sustainable, interesting and a fun place – Matthew
I like how the teachers push you to face your fears- Rayhan
