Discovery Centre

Curriculum

Another busy week in the Discovery Centre with lots of fun activities and our final week of assessment. That means that this week Foundation students attend school for the full week including Wednesday.

In Literacy sessions this week students looked at the initial sounds in words and had to practise their listening skills to follow step by step instructions to draw The Cat in the Hat. Their pictures were so impressive! In Mathematics we continued to work on strengthening students’ understanding of numbers by practising counting collections of small objects and subitising. We will be spending a lot of time practising the important skill of subitising this year, which is to quickly recognise the number of objects in a small group without the need to count them.

On Friday students were very excited to begin Junior Rotations! Each week students will rotate through a different activity with a different teacher from the Junior School. They also work with students from all of the different classes from the Junior School, giving them the opportunity to broaden and strengthen their social connections. They will complete activities such as cooking, team building games, a STEM challenge, Indonesian dancing and recycled box creations. It is fantastic, engaging program and is a great way to finish off the week!

Have a wonderful week
