Inquiry Centre

Curriculum

It’s hard to believe we have passed the halfway point of the term! Thank you to the parents for all of their support so far this term, we are in for an exciting year.

In Maths this week we have been focusing on subtraction and practising the language and action of taking away through the creation of number stories and games. This has also been linked to our term focus of place-value by looking at how many tens and ones are in a number and representing this with icy-pole sticks. Next week we will begin a unit on measurement with a focus on the length of different objects.

It has been fantastic seeing the students continuing to use descriptive language in their writing. This week we have been focusing on creating a tightening tension and using descriptive words to create a picture in the reader's head. Next week we will continue to work on narrative writing with a focus on using different connectives to create compound sentences.

There has been lots of discussion happening in reading this week with students making predictions about what is going to happen in a text based on the front cover and title. Students have been practising using evidence to support their prediction and then change their prediction once the first few pages have been read. Next week we will begin focusing on questioning as a comprehension technique to help us understand what we are reading.

In Guided Inquiry we discussed different foods in our diet and made a healthy plate with examples of what they would eat to make a healthy diet.

All students enjoyed participating in their first Junior Rotation for 2020, this will continue each Friday afternoon.

Have a great week!

Kind Regards,

Emily Kiefte, Emma Honan, Emma Marsh, Aidan O’Connor, Erin Bennetts, Simone Rock, Andy Parthenopoulos, Kathy Wang
