News From Around The School

Show Case Success

A definite highlight of the school calendar for teachers, students and family alike is our annual Show Case evening. The event is not only great fun, it serves an important role in showcasing the musical and artistic talent and endeavours of our students.

Under the artistic direction of music teacher, Mr Vella and art teacher, Ms Pocock, students performed a range of acts from solo and group music pieces to skits, comedy routines and dance.

On arrival guests were treated to delicious canapes prepared and served by Mr O'Shea's food technology students, while having the opportunity to view student artwork on display, arranged and curated by Ms Pocock. Mrs Gett's ag students proudly showed off their first Art for Agriculture prize Archibull entry that is currently in Sydney awaiting judging.

Deputy Principal, Ms Neil said that 'Participants and teachers involved alike deserve great commendation for staging a successful and enjoyable night. There's months of planning and creating that goes into producing such a show. For everyone involved it takes commitment and courage.'

Responsible Use Of Social Media & The Internet

Senior Constable Cameron Bounds addressed students recently at a school assembly to talk about responsible use of the internet, in particular social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram and Snapchat.

Senior Constable Bounds explained the law to students as it relates to the lawful use of the internet. He emphasised that it must not be used for intimidation, bullying, harassment or sexting purposes, including sending inappropriate images. He also explained the serious legal ramifications and life-long impact of sending, receiving and sharing unlawful messages and images. With most students being underage it further compounds the legal consequences, should they participate in such activity.

Senior Constable Bounds' visit was part of our school's continuing student education about cyber security and responsible use of the internet.

We are so proud of this young lady! Elizabeth Horne loves to sing and dance and this year marked the second time she was selected to perform in the disABILITY group at the Southern Stars Arena Spectacular in Wollongong.

This year they danced to the song ‘You’ve got a friend in me’ from the Toy Story movies. They were joined on stage by members of the Drama ensemble to create the feel of a park full of kids having fun.

Elizabeth has just returned from rehearsals for the 2019 Schools Spectacular in Sydney.

Students Sing Acknowledgement to Country at Country Music Muster

We were proud to have a number of our Aboriginal students sing the Acknowledgment to Country at the opening of the Cotton Capital Country Music Muster event. Under the guidance of Aboriginal Education Officer, Mrs Helen Wenner and backed by music teacher, Mrs James Vella, students Teliah Croaker, Lillianne and Luana Manson-Smith, Bianca Williams and Nerida-Lee Hayne practiced their Acknowledgement to Country for several weeks to ensure it was perfect for the big night.

Online Payments - Quick & Easy

Online payments have become the most popular way for parents and carers to pay for school fees, excursions, uniform items etc.

For anyone not yet using online payments, you can do this either through our school website (payment button is at the top) or via the school’s app. If you haven’t yet downloaded the app, we encourage you to do so as it’s a quick and easy way to also receive important messages from the school. In your App Store, search for Skoolbag and download it. Once you have downloaded it, enter Wee Waa High to request access.

If you do need to make cash payments in person at the school, please ensure you bring the exact amount with you as we do not keep cash on the premises.

That's Quite A Cow, Or Is It A Bull?

Our inaugural Archibull entry has been a terrific learning experience for both our agriculture and art students alike. The resulting cow that has been adorned with a grains industry themed artwork is currently in Sydney awaiting judging.

Last week The Land newspaper featured an article on the Art for Agriculture program that is now in it's 10th year and continues to grow and gather more and more participating schools each year.

Coordinating teachers Mrs Verity Gett and Ms Cherrie Pocock agree that while a major undertaking, participating has been a wonderful learning experience for students over the past three to four months and one they are keen to repeat next year.

Citizenship Awards - Who Will You Nominate

As part of the school’s commitment to cultivating great citizenship attributes in our students, the P&C and former Wee Waa High teacher, Mrs Maxine Booby have generously co-funded a citizenship rewards program. The program recognises and acknowledges students who are making a valuable contribution to the community. In addition to being recognised at our school assembly, these students receive a movie/popcorn/drink pass to the Crossing Theatre in Narrabri.

Our first awardees were Tialas Croaker, Leslie Toomey and Clifford Toomey who were acknowledged for their voluntary contribution of time to the set-up and clean-up of this year’s Country Music Muster.

We encourage nominations for this award from across our community. Please contact our Principal, Ms Doust or Deputy Principal, Ms Neil if you know a WWHS students whose good work in the community deserves recognition.
