PRINCIPAL'S REPORT

From the Principal

Dear Parents, Students and Friends,

This is the last edition of Highlights for the year, so I want to take the opportunity to thank staff, students and parents for all their hard work in achieving some excellent outcomes this year. The overwhelming majority of students have taken the opportunities that this school presents to them. They have engaged positively in a diverse range of academic and personal learning opportunities which has allowed them to grow as young scholars and, more broadly, as productive people in society.

Our VCE results this year again show that our students, working in partnership with our fine staff, are capable of achieving excellent results.  It is pleasing that we have again well exceeded state averages in VCE attainment. 28.1% of our students received an ATAR above 80 and 43.6% received an ATAR above 70. The state average for these levels of attainment is 20% and 30% respectively.

These outcomes are only possible when a positive partnership is established between the school, our students and their families. I thank you all for contributing to that partnership.

PFA

The Parents and friends Association (PFA) is a wonderful supporter of the school. Their fundraising allows the school to purchase many items to support students’ learning that we would not otherwise have.

They have really outdone themselves buy generously supporting the college to buy a large format laser cutter. Their substantial contribution of approximately $12,000.00 means that our students now have access to a large format, commercial quality machine. This will allow our design, technology and art students to develop sophisticated skills in designing and constructing a wide range of items using a variety of materials.

I want to sincerely thank the PFA for their work in supporting the school, and encourage any parent who would like to be involved in the life of the school to join them next year.

Library Fund

I am pleased to announce that the school will undertake a partial refurbishment of the Library. The work will include replacing some existing walls will full height glass, establishing a silent study room equipped with corral desks, installation of a permanent wall to separate the fiction reading space, and to re-establish the circulation desk near the entry.

The cost of the works is being covered from our Library Fund. I would like to thank the families who have generously contributed to this fund and, therefore, have allowed us to undertake these improvements to our facilities.

I would encourage families to contribute to this, or our building fund as they allow the school to undertake these kinds of local projects which will benefit our students. Contributions to both of these funds are tax deductable.

To close, I wish you all a safe, happy and relaxing summer break.

Yours sincerely,

Richard Minack
