Learning and Teaching

I can’t believe it is already Week 4 and the term is well on its way. Our teachers have been busy planning, teaching and assessing students as they begin to prepare Semester 1 reports. It is so wonderful to hear teachers sharing stories of how much their students have grown in their learning over the last 4 months.

At St Anthony’s, we assess students knowledge and understanding in many different ways. Our teachers integrate multiple sources of evidence to inform their judgements about a student. They provide feedback to students on how to monitor and regulate their actions to achieve their own learning goals.

This week our year 3 and 5 students sat for the NAPLAN tests which covered areas of Language Conventions, Writing, Reading and Numeracy. These tests give our school an idea about how our students are doing compared to other schools in the country. They are, however, a test conducted on one day and do not measure growth in all areas of the curriculum. We are so proud of our students and how they were able to manage themselves through the tests.

Below is a diagram explaining the benefits of formative assessments in the classroom.
