Alfred Street ELC Update

Alfred Street ELC Update

The ELC has had a very busy start to the start to Term 2, as we’ve been preparing for ANZAC Day with a variety of activities as many of our children engage in ANZAC Day activities. One of the activities was making ANZAC biscuits, which all of the children enjoyed making which exposed them to the concepts of measurement & literacy through following the recipe. They loved eating the ANZAC biscuits too!

We also had the opportunity to create a wreath to take to the St Anthony’s ANZAC Day assembly on the 26th April. We gathered all of the resources, and whilst outside and we provided all of the children the opportunity to help create and add to the wreath. As can be seen below, the children really enjoyed contributing to this experience.

On the Friday with our wreath in hand, myself & a few of the children went for a visit to St Anthony’s and placed our wreath at the  Assembly. This afforded us the opportunity to hear our local RSL representative play the Rouse on his bugle, and we met the Mayor of Dandenong too!

Despite all of this we have also been very busy at the ELC exploring through our senses through play dough and cloud dough, a rice sensory tray and Ice painting.  Through these experiences we have been able to promote and encourage lots of expressive language development, as the children have been discussing and describing all of the different textures they could see and feel.

Also over the next week or so the children will be creating some special surprises for the special women in their lives. We will be having a special afternoon tea on the 10th May to celebrate!
