Head of Sport Report..

Good afternoon everyone,

What an amazing end to a very busy Term Two sporting wise. A number of our unbelievable athletes have astounded with their terrific efforts in their sport of choice and I have some very exciting news to share with you in this edition of the Crier.

On Monday, 17th June, Mackenzie O’Dwyer (Year 6) travelled to the State Hockey/Netball complex in Parkville, Melbourne to partake in the final selection tier of the School Sports Victoria 12 and under Victorian Netball team process. This saw her pitted against the top 30 young players in the state, vying for a spot in the side to compete in the Australian Primary Schools Championships, which are going to be held in Canberra from the 14th – 20th September. After a solid session of warm-up, skill drills and games, news filtered through lunchtime the following day informing Mackenzie she has done enough to catch the selectors’ attention and was selected in the team of 12 students!!! This sees her become the first ever student from CKC/Cobram AGS to make a Victorian team!!! What makes this even more meritorious is that this side is mostly made up of players stemming from metropolitan/ larger cities areas. She will now be required to travel to Melbourne each Sunday for training with the team and start preparing for the championships! Well done on your terrific achievement!

Whilst on state selection, we are waiting on baited breath to receive news as to whether or not Zahlia Kautai (Year 5) has made the SSV Victorian 12 and under Touch Football team!!! Poor Zahlia had her last trial on Sunday 16th June and is still waiting!!! Hopefully find out in the next 48 hours so will inform as soon as it comes to hand! Fingers crossed that her participation in this team last year, as a Year 4 student, will hold her in good stead to receive the call up again and Cobram AGS will have their second state representative within a week!!!

Sonny Rowe (Year 7) made the final cut of 40 players vying for a position in the SSV 12 and under Boys’ Soccer team on Wednesday, 19th June in Melbourne. This saw the best players from the country/city put their craft and wares into practise in trying to impress the selection panel. Up against some very stiff opposition in the most popular sport world-wide, Sonny was unable to get into the final team but we are extremely proud of his efforts getting as far as he did!!! Congratulations on your outstanding feat in a highly-competitive sport!!!

On Wednesday, 19th June, 11 students represented Cobram AGS as members of the Goulburn-Murray Cross-country team, competing at the 2019 Hume Region event, which was held at Winton Raceway, just outside of Benalla. On a beautiful winter’s day, the students gave their all and did this to the best of their ability. From these efforts, Savannah Zoch (Year 6) did incredibly well to finish in 8th spot which now sees her qualify for the SSV Victorian State Cross-country. This will be held at Bundoora in Melbourne on Thursday 18th July! We wish Savannah all the best!

Finally, Tennille Kautai (Year 3) participated in the Regional Cross-country event in the U9 1.5km event, representing the Nathalia Little Aths Club and what a fantastic result she secured!!! She ran her heart out to finish in 4th position, which qualifies her for the State event, which is going to be held on the 3rd August!!! Great work Tennille!

As you can see, what an impressive Term Two our young and very talented sports people have had!!! It’s amazing to see such terrific results being achieved by these individuals and, on behalf of all at Cobram AGS, congratulations to all our sporting stars!!! Keep up the great work for the remainder of the year! Have a great and restful holiday! Go Team Cobram AGS.
