SunSmart School- HATS are Back!

You may have already noticed Victoria’s UV levels are steadily rising so it’s time to dust off that school hat and get into full SunSmart mode! The weather may still be cold and grey some days but please don’t be fooled. It’s the UV that can damage our skin and eyes. We can’t see or feel UV but at this time of year it starts to increase in intensity. New hats are available at the office for purchase.

Off on our first grade 3 camp

On Monday Grade 3 students, accompanied by 9 staff members, travelled to Camp Adanac near Yarra Junction for a two-night camp. The weather has been kind to us. There are a wide variety of challenging outdoor activities presented by the camp staff. The students return as more resilient people, as they've had to cope with unfamiliar situations, including taking care of themselves and their belongings, and sleeping away from home. They will try new things, make new friends and really come out of their ‘shells’.

I would like to acknowledge the staff who leave families to attend camp and ensure the successful camp experience for our students. The camp program cannot run without the dedicated staff support- thank you to Khay Le, Kirilee Bell, Chloe Tomkins, Karen Holmes, Tania Balderston, Deirdree Geilings, Kate McLeod, Amber Somerville and James Roche for attending. I also attend camp as I believe it is an invaluable way to know our students in a very different environment from home or school.

Simply stunning performances over 2 nights with 2 casts- an outstanding accomplishment.

Our teachers have reminded these students that this was a chance to shine as individuals and as a team. It has been an outstanding performance that our audience have appreciated. And on behalf of everyone I would like to acknowledge our students hard work, perseverance and team work.

For some students this may be their only opportunity for such a performance experience and for others tonight may herald the start of an exciting career!  Regardless -all have gained from the experience.

Nothing like this just happens. This event is the result of the hard work and vision by a group of dedicated staff and parents and friends of the Rangeview community. The jobs are varied and listed in the wonderful programs. They range from the lighting and sound, scenery and props, makeup and hair, back stage and front of house, photos, tickets and so on. All coming together on the night to make this possible. 

Our Production team is made up of teaching and non-teaching staff and parents and friends- some hiding in the wings, up in the light and sound booth or sitting amongst you in the audience – on behalf of the Rangeview community, I thank them for their efforts on the night and in the months leading up to the performances.

Special mention to the other members of the grade 5&6 team- Faye Natoli, April Warfield, Lisa O’Connor, Natalie Bellis and Jackie Moran.

In addition to these acknowledgements:

The talented Sound and Lighting Crew with James Roche, Scott Carse, and in particular - Jason Sherwood, Peter Lyons, Mark Grummidge – a special thank you for your long service for Rangeview and the productions. So ably assisted by Jack Sherwood and Johnno Roberts.

A big thank you to the teams of ninjas (students) on both nights working in the wings and flying across the stage.

Walk to School - Save our Crossings 

Every Thursday for the remainder of the term is Walk to School Day to collect our data and encourage families to park away from the school, use our crossings and walk to school!
