It gives me great pleasure to welcome our MITS family to the 2019 school year.  The growth of this great family was clear during this year's Orientation Week, when we were joined by parents, grandparents and guardians as our 22 new MITS students got to know each other, our MITS staff and the many friendly faces around Richmond Football Club and Richmond Hill.  Through this orientation, the courage and ambition of our students, and the love and support of their parents and guardians, was clear.

This year, an extraordinary 56 young people are pursuing their studies at MITS, or at Partner Schools across Melbourne having graduated from MITS.  We are excited by the strength of this community of young people in Melbourne: they are providing each other with encouragement, support, role modelling and connection to home, family and culture.  Other MITS alumni are continuing to pursue their studies closer to home, in Darwin and regional Victoria.  We are committed to supporting these students also, and ensuring they remain a part of our MITS family.

For the first time in 2019, MITS has established a small boarding house in Kew for Year 8 alumni girls.  This home is being run by Lorraine Kabbindi White, her partner Brad and Boarding Coordinator Fleur.  Our commitment to our students is a long-term commitment, and in the coming years we expect to play a growing role in providing accommodation to MITS alumni attending Melbourne schools.

For now, I wish all of our students and alumni, our families at home and in Melbourne, our Partner Schools and supporters, a terrific 2019 year.  I hope you enjoy this new newsletter format, and the vast array of reports and photos that you'll find within it.
