WE GATHER
Fr Paddy: We begin today by asking God to bless us
In the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit
All: Amen
Fr Paddy: We gather today to remember and give thanks for our colleague, friend and teacher, Terry Kennedy.
Opening Prayer:
Fr Paddy: Creator God, you brought us to birth and in your arms we die.
Hear our prayer on behalf of our brother, Terry,
who is his life strove to live with truth, integrity and love.
May he now rest in your loving arms.
We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever.
All: Amen
Fr Paddy: Let us now take some time to listen to God’s word.
WE LISTEN:
Readings:
First Reading: Will Doyle - School Captain
A reading from the Book of Wisdom 4:7-10
The virtuous man, though he dies before his time, will find rest.
Length of days is not what makes age honourable,
nor number of years the true measure of life;
but understanding is grey hair for men,
and a blameless life is ripe old age.
He has sought to please God, so God has loved him…
The Word of the Lord.
All: Thanks be to God.
Responsorial Psalm 23:
The Lord Is My Shepherd (Sung)
The Lord is my shepherd, and I want to follow,
wherever he leads me, wherever he goes.
Over the mountains, the waters and byways,
valleys and highways he's waiting for me.
Antiphon
I want to go to meet him there,
to lay myself down in his love.
The Lord is my shepherd and I want to follow,
wherever he leads me, wherever he goes.
And while on the journey to where we are going,
he promised to be there to help us along.
And over the mountains we'll walk on together,
to know all the wonders he's given to me. (Antiphon)
Please join in to welcome the Gospel Aubrey Tanuco - School Captain
Alleluia, Alleluia! Jn 14
I am the way, the truth, and the life, says the Lord;
no one comes to the Father, except through me.
Alleluia!
Fr Paddy: The Lord be with you
All: And with your spirit
Fr Paddy: A reading from the Gospel of John 14:1-3
All: Glory to you, O Lord
Jesus said to his disciples:
‘Do not let your hearts be troubled.
Trust in God still, and trust in me.
There are many rooms in my Father’s house;
if there were not, I should have told you.
I am now going to prepare a place for you,
and after I have gone and prepared you a place,
I shall return to take you with me;
so that where I am
you may be too.
You know the way to the place where I am going.’
Thomas said, ‘Lord, we do not know where you are going, so how can we know the way?’ Jesus said:
‘I am the Way, the Truth and the Life.
No one can come to the Father except through me.
Fr Paddy: The Gospel of the Lord
All: Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.
Brief Pause
WE RESPOND: Reflection Song:
Meet me in the Middle of the Air
Hearing the news of Terry’s passing has been devastating. As we come to terms with the news in our own unique ways, we will experience the full gamete of emotions of grief. Many of us are still in a space of disbelief. In the place of a homily or prepared reflection, we invite you, in your own time and only if you feel comfortable, to share a thought, your feelings, a question or memories of Mr Kennedy by writing a statement on a sticky note. In doing so we ask you to simply state what you want to say. You do not need to add your name. This is a space of reflection. We respect this space and each other and our feelings as we listen to Claudia Reardon and Sam Campbell-McCrea sing. Please place your memories around your HG Candle.
