Principals Report

“All is flux nothing stays still.”  Heraclitis

The above quote is certainly true of the ever changing world in which we find ourselves.  My view is that we embrace flux. Flux is latin for flow which is reminds me of the beautiful bay and the ocean that surrounds Australia.  We all learned to swim with the flow of a rip as this would bring us back to shore.  I believe that we are experiencing times that require us to swim with the flow of change which will bring us back to a sense of safety and wellbeing.  There is no doubt that this global pandemic has altered many aspects of the world our students are going to move into as adults.  I am confident that they are learning to be flexible, adaptable and open to the flux which will prepare them for the unknown future.

Our students have done just that upon their return to on-site learning.  It was wonderful to have our students smiling, interacting and learning back at school.  Our staff and students are relishing the return to the school environment as it should be with students.  Most are finding that they are tired as result of the change to their routine once again but the overall sentiment is a positive one.

The staggered start times and finish times have worked well to space out the students.  Surprisingly, our challenge is the Year 9 students who arrive early as they want to be at school.  We are still asking that parents and students adhere to the staggered times for the remainder of the term.  We will receive further advice towards the end of the term as to the operations of Term 3.

Stage 2 Update

We are excited by how quickly this is progressing.  The Principal Design Consultant (PDC) tender is being developed by the VSBA (Victorian Schools Building Authority). The tender period is 10/6 to 23/6 followed by the review of tenders to be finalized by July 7th when the contract will be awarded.  We will have our architect on board for next term.

Curriculum Innovation

There were a few projects completed earlier this term through parent contributions to the curriculum innovation.  It is clear that this contribution will provide students with some excellent resources for our programs.

The Fitness Centre has been completed and we are now just awaiting fit out.  This will be used by the Sports Enhancement Program beginning in Year 9 as well as the dance program.  The Fitness Centre is located in the MCC Pavillion.  It was wonderful that the MCC was open to sharing space for this centre.  Here are some photos:

We have also undertaken works in the technology space to expand the use and structure the space to include additional storage, painting stations, tool charging stations and jewellery making station.  We are excited about how our students can now access and use the space.
