Pastoral Care News

Students are continuing to submit their entries for the “BElieve in YOUrself” new skill competition where students have the opportunity to win up to $500 in community cash. Students have been encouraged to step outside of the comfort zone and adopt a new skill; sending through a short video of their progress and achievements to Mr Neville by the end of week 9 for judging.

Although currently on leave, Mr Neville is still accepting submissions and has expressed how impressed he is with the number of entries and the broad scope of skills that the students are learning. There are multiple prizes to be won, so everyone is encouraged to participate.

Like anything that is new; whether it be an experience or a way of doing things different to our normal routine; we can often develop feelings of anxiety or feel somewhat apprehensive; however it is this emotional energy that lets us rise to the challenge; enabling us to grow as individuals. In our next newsletter, I hope to share some of the talents and skills that our students (and staff) have developed and celebrate their achievements.

Learning a new skill is not always easy…….in fact it can be a path filled with many obstacles, hurdles and disappointments but if we choose to change the way we view these delays as opportunities for reflection and the opportunity to perhaps problem solve, we will eventually master the skill and indeed increase our resilience along the way…………………….never give up!!!!

“Learning is a treasure which will follow its owner everywhere” Chinese proverb. Once you have mastered the skill it will be with you always.

Many students and staff have taken the opportunity to learn how to knit so that together as a school community we can create warm wraps/blankets to be distributed to those in need both locally and globally. The group has grown in numbers and we will continue to welcome new members; no experience is necessary and needles and yarn can be provided. We are fortunate enough to have Mrs Sartor and Mrs Farrugia acting as mentors and assist students learn this timeless skill. The group is currently meeting on a Wednesday in the Library at lunchtime and hope to continue on this current project until the end of term 3. The group is made of a cross section of year groups and is a wonderful opportunity to meet new people and assist those less fortunate.

Thank you to those who continue to donate to our clothing pool. Without such generosity we would not be able to operate such a successful clothing pool. I currently have a large stock of the older tracksuits (particularly jackets) so please contact me if your child has grown or requires a replacement.

Once again, can I please remind people of the importance of labelling clothing. The lost property is starting to accumulate again.

I hope you have a wonderful weekend, stay warm and stay safe.
