Reaching out for HELP in vulnerable times. And the Gift of Restrictions.

Over the last 2 months I have been impacted by a family member’s behaviour and mental health which became more problematic during the lockdown. The journey for me tapped into areas of unacquainted vulnerability and fear. I was aware that my capacity to endure the issue at hand wasn’t sustainable long term and felt like I was lost at sea, struggling to find the wisdom and strength I needed. I knew I needed outside help to build personal capacity and gain the skills required.

Seeking professional support for ourselves is a humbling thought, especially if you are a professional in the same field. Over lockdown I sought out webinars, attended an online Zoom 6 week course and sought personal counselling for the areas that felt so overwhelming. Forging through new territory with professional resources and support built capacity to become who I needed to be on the inside whilst giving me the wisdom of powerfully and lovingly “tackling the issue” at hand.

In this season I have grown and been strengthened with a capacity that has been transformational that will be a gift to my family and the many people I work with. The importance of reaching out for help when things aren’t working, when we feel out of our depth or overwhelmed is critical to reduce feelings of aloneness, stress and anxiety. I don’t think I would be experiencing this new place today if I hadn’t humbled myself to get help.

This may be a difficult question to answer, I think it is a worthwhile one.

What is your gift from COVID-19 restrictions?
