Learning from Home and at School

Thanks to our staff, students and parents for their combined efforts in making our Term 2 a success, amidst a pandemic and challenging circumstances.

Breakfast Club

In terms of my introductory quote, our “glorious” breakfast program will operate as soon as possible in Term 3.  It is important for all students to have breakfast each day to give them the energy to focus on learning.

School Attendance

I have mentioned many times that if a student has 90% attendance from Kindergarten to Year 12, they will miss 1.3 years of schooling.  It is essential for each student to attend school each day.  Our aim is for 100% attendance.

There will be enhanced home-school communication procedures in place in Term 3 in relation to attendance. You may receive a phone call or other contact from the school in relation to your child’s attendance as we aim for excellence in this area.

Parent-Teacher Interviews

As we are unable to have large parent meetings on site, parent-teacher interview bookings will open in Term 3 for follow up via phone calls from teachers.  Further information will be provided.

Subject Selection

Similarly, we are exploring options for an online subject selection event.

New Executive Staff

Due to our increasing enrolments, I am very pleased to announce that two new additional executive staff members have been appointed to Cecil Hills High School.

Ms Julia Cremin from Chester Hill High School has been appointed as Deputy Principal.  Ms Cremin has been Relieving Deputy Principal at Chester Hill High School since 2016 and during this time has worked in the senior executive team in a school of nearly 1400 students.

At this stage, there will be no changes to grade-based responsibilities for our other Deputy Principals.  This means that the following Deputy Principals will still have responsibility for these grades:  Mr Lane for Year 7 and Year 10, Mrs James for Year 8 and Year 11 and Mrs Haskett for Year 9 and Year 12.

Mr Julian Floriano from The Forest High School has been appointed as Head Teacher - Welfare.  Mr Floriano has been Relieving Head Teacher - Welfare at The Forest High School since 2018 and comes to us with experiences across learning support, wellbeing, student leadership and transition.

Mr Floriano will be working alongside Mrs Randall, Head Teacher – Welfare as this is an additional position.

Reports

We previously trialled issuing electronic reports through the Sentral portal for parents.  We are continuing with this trial again and reports will be available on Sentral for parents to download.  Any parent who requires a hard copy is able to request this from the school.

P&C Meetings

Our P&C meetings are run as information sessions for parents and we value your input to help us with our decision-making.  Our next meeting will be held at 6:30pm on Monday,

3 August 2020. We will decide closer to the date on the format for this meeting.

I look forward to continuing to work with the staff, students and parents of Cecil Hills High School, the best school in NSW.
