Music Matters

As we see a gradual ease on COVID-19 restrictions, I remain hopeful that we can finally resume performances. Our Ensembles have continued to rehearse, with the exception of the Choir.  Choir rehearsals will resume after the holidays as advice is that they are now safe to do so.

Twilight Concerts

As far as our normal Twilight Concert series are concerned I will be in discussion with the relevant parties as to the future nature of these events. Everything will be up for discussion including the scheduling of the concerts and their make up due to current circumstances. The nature and conduct of many events have been changed due to COVID-19 and our concerts are no exception. I am searching for opportunities for our boys to perform.

Year 12 Drama Class group performances

I was delighted to witness our Year 12 Drama class and their group performances last Friday-week. As you may be aware Drama group performances will not be examined externally this year but are a integral part of the Drama curriculum. The boys were incredibly well prepared by Ms Lindley and presented material that ranged from political to social concerns. Well done boys and Ms Lindley.

Instrument Inspection

Thanks to all boys who brought in instruments for inspection last week. A reminder that if you do have a school instrument it needs to be brought in for inspection. Also a reminder that if you are sharing a larger brass or woodwind instrument you need to have your own mouthpiece.

As this is the end of my first semester back at St Pius I would like to thank staff, students and parents for their welcome and support especially through these unusual times. The late Dame Vera Lynn sang about reuniting in her famous song “We’ll Meet Again” and I’m sure that we will all “meet” again some time soon, in person, to celebrate music at SPX.
