From the Senior Sports Master
As you will see below, the College has approved a significant increase in holiday sports training activities in preparation for the upcoming ISA Winter season. I would encourage all boys to involve themselves in as much activity as possible so that we can hit the ground running at the commencement of Term 3.
Details for all camps can be found in the respective sports sections. Please register for these at your earliest opportunity.
Mr Matt Stearn - Senior Sports Master
Rugby
The ISA confirmed on Tuesday that the Rugby Season will go ahead and schools will play 7 matches each starting Saturday 25 July. Numbers at training have been great, so much so that we have been able to enter two additional teams in the 2020 competition. Again, can I remind all players and parents that Rugby training is compulsory, and now that the season is confirmed, it is vital players are taking part and preparing to play.
Rugby Registration – RE-OPEN please book ASAP
All Year 7 - 12 students wishing to play Rugby are required to be registered to be included in a team, allowing the school rugby administrators & coaches to best prepare for the coming season, plus allow your P&F Rugby Club to best support and communicate with you! Rugby Refereeing in 2020
St Pius is looking for keen students (Years 9 - 12) and parents who would be interested in becoming Rugby referees at the College this season. Refereeing is an enjoyable, rewarding and challenging way to get involved or stay involved in Rugby.
The College is also looking for experienced and qualified parent referees who would be able to assist with refereeing home games and mentor new referees.
A Level 1 (Referee Ready) Course will be run at Oxford Falls at 9.00 am on Wednesday 8 July, and will take approximately 3 hours. Costs for the course will be covered by the College if you commit to referee at Home games.
Further courses are available at other times and locations for those who are unable to attend the course at Oxford Falls.
If you or your son are interested in attending one of these courses or would like further information, please contact James Quinn by email at jquinn@stpiusx.nsw.edu.au.

Football
Over the upcoming break, the ISA schools hope to finalise their home and away fixture list. Each week, in this section of the Woodchatta, times and venues for the following weekend’s fixtures will be published.
Training will commence in Term 3 on Wednesday 22 July. At this stage training days and venues will remain the same, however, if we gain access to local fields this may change. Students are asked to listen to all announcements at Sports Assemblies for any possible changes.
Please see the link and information in the Football Supporters Club section below about the Holiday Football Clinic.
Mr Simon Yue - Senior Football Convenor
ISA Tennis
Grading/training continued this week. Our new players are all showing promise and our experienced players all seem to be enjoying getting back into the swing of tennis. The plans for Term 3’s shortened season will soon be finalised and will distributed by the end of the term.
Ms Amanda O’Brien - ISA Tennis Convenor
Debating
Last Friday we held our first training session of the year. There is no training this week as Friday is the parent/teacher/student interviews day.
Last Thursday an email was sent from the CSDA Debating Competition asking for expressions of interest to compete in a reduced debating competition which would run for 4 or 5 rounds in July and August in Term 3.
The dates of these debates are 24 July, 31 July, 7 August, 14 August and 21 August (Weeks 1 - 5).
We expect that initially no audience will be allowed, with just the debaters and adjudicator in the room, however this may change as COVID-19 restrictions are reviewed and relaxed. Once confirmation is made, we will participate in this CSDA competition instead of the 'friendly' debates previously proposed.
More information will follow as plans are confirmed.
