From the Principal

It has certainly been an interesting time for everyone involved in education in Term 2.  No-one has been spared the dramatic changes we have experienced and endured.  What the future holds for all of us continues to remain in the hands of a virus, and as a result, our governing bodies.  We can, however, be assured that we will continue to provide a safe environment for our students while ensuring our academic rigour remains at the standard we would always expect from our community.

Unfortunately, due to the impact of COVID-19, a number of activities have now been cancelled.  Until we have further information and direction, we are still unable to confirm the cancellation of many camps and excursions.  As information comes to hand, we will update all members of our community.

The following sporting events have been cancelled by School Sports Victoria:

  • All senior team sports
  • All premier league sports

The following sports will not progress to a State Championship as there is little or no time for the lower levels of competition to be completed:

  • All levels of Australian Rules (Primary, Years 7, 8, Intermediate)
  • Football (Soccer) Years 7, 8, Intermediate

In line with the above cancellations and possible further cancellations, fee adjustments will be calculated and processed during Term 3.  These adjustments will be reflected on the statements, to be issued to families during early Term 4.

Throughout 2020, Catholic Education Sandhurst, under instruction from our Bishop, Shane Mackinlay, has participated in Governance Listening Assemblies, as we move to a new governance model in 2021.  This new governance model moves us into an incorporated body which is covered by the Corporation Act.  In recent weeks, Principals, Advisory Chairs and Canonical Administrators were presented with the recommendations from the working party on the proposed model which is to commence in 2021.

The new Board of Directors will bear the ultimate moral and legal responsibility for all Diocesan Catholic schools and the Catholic Education Office.  This board fulfils the criteria necessary to comply with relevant regulatory bodies such as VRQA (Victorian Registration and Qualifications Authority).   Over the second half of 2020, I will continue to provide updates on our new governance structure and how St Augustine’s College will operate under this model.

The cold weather has certainly forced us to find our winter clothes.  It has been pleasing to see so many of our students adhering to the winter uniform protocols.  While we understand that some families are still waiting on uniform items from our supplier, it has been disappointing that some students have chosen to wear items of clothing that are not respecting our uniform protocols.   It is frustrating that staff are spending time following up uniform issues.  I ask that families take greater responsibility with supporting our uniform protocols.

I would like to thank everyone for the amazing response to what has been thrown at us this term.  Our response will forever be remembered and appreciated.  Please take the next two weeks to enjoy your well-earned rest and we look forward to seeing you all on the first day of Term 3.

Enjoy your break.
