Student Voice
Good day to everyone, and welcome to the year 2021. I am Josiah Villaflor, and I am this year's College Captain alongside Daniel Ramos.
As school leaders, it’s our pleasure to facilitate your needs and wants for improvement in the school. Please feel free to come up to us or other school leaders if you have any suggestions for change or addition to The King's College.
Creating a Culture of Change
With every new generation comes new ideas, and this current year 12 cohort is all about
change. Change helps each and every person to become resilient, realising areas of
improvement in themselves and as a whole. It’s a very big aspect in every students’ life,
and as the current year 12s of school, we are here to become role models to the younger
years, inspiring them to make changes in their lives, changes that would better
themselves and to improve their cohort.
Incorporating Christian Values in Everyday Life
The King's College is a Christian school, which practices Christian values and adheres to
them. Some students do not believe that there is a greater power, but the year 12s will do
their best to apply Christian values to our everyday lives. Values such as peace, respect,
service, compassion and more will be upheld by the year 12s, inspiring the younger
students to follow in our direction.
Our Ideas for College Improvements
Today we would like to discuss the issue of the lack of amenities such as seating and undercover areas found around the school. Most seating areas are located outdoors, but the issue is that students have little to no options in finding seating during rainy seasons.
The school is growing as all schools should, but the number of seats that we currently have isn't able to facilitate this growth. To give you a figure, the school's population is heading towards 700 students (more or less), not including the staff.
We, as a student body, suggested adding more permanent seats in the shady areas around the perimeters of the Meryl J Butler Centre and more picnic tables around the grassy areas around the basketball court, playground, and barbecues, and eventually in the future, even adding a new undercover area in the unused space near the auditorium.
Not only will we improve on the school's infrastructure, but also the culture of the school, further reinforcing the sense of community with students, building relationships with one another, and increasing students' participation.
Future Student Voice
You will hear more from the student council about further news and goals throughout the year. Again, welcome to the new school year and please feel free to suggest any changes are additions to the school. Thank you.
