Principal's Message
Mr Ian Elder
Welcome to the first newsletter for 2021!
As I mentioned on our website, I am very keen to hear the student voice and provide opportunities for student leadership throughout the College.
To promote the student voice you will notice a new section of the newsletter titled "Student Voice" that will appear in all newsletters.
In speaking to the Year 12 students, I have stressed the point that they are all leaders in the College, whether they wear a badge or not. They, by their attitude and example, will set the standard for the younger year groups. I have been impressed with what I have seen so far, and it was enjoyable sharing the recent Ball experience with them.
Calendar Change - Term 3
Earlier this year, the COVID-19 lockdown requirement meant there was a loss of five teaching days. Classroom teaching time is precious, and in examining the previously published school calendar, the following changes will now take effect.
OLD | Monday 19 July | Tuesday 20 July | Wednesday 21 July | Thursday 22 July | Friday 23 July |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Staff PL | Staff PL | Staff PL | Staff PL | Staff PL |
NEW | Monday 19 July | Tuesday 20 July | Wednesday 21 July | Thursday 22 July | Friday 23 July |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Staff PL | Staff PL | First Day Term 3 Students Return | Students Onsite | Students Onsite |
Apologies for any family that may be inconvenienced by this change, but making this effort to catch up on missed schooling is a priority of the College.
Curriculum
There is a need to offer more "hands-on" technology courses (e.g., Woodwork) in lower school and hopefully for these to flow into Years 11 and 12. (e.g., Materials Design Technology). To do this, we need to set up specialist teaching spaces with appropriate equipment. Negotiations are currently underway to provide these facilities for 2022.
Primary School Classes 2022
There will be no split classes in Years 1-6 next year.
Staffing
A number of new staff commenced this year and they are featured in our Teachers Talk segment of this newsletter.
The College has recently advertised for the position of Dean of Teaching and Learning (Years 7-12). This is a replacement position for Mrs Mary dos Santos who will finish her time at the College at the end of this term. We thank Mary for her excellent service and wish her all the best as she takes on studies at the Doctorate level.
