Music & performance

We are back

After a rocky 2020, the Instrumental Music Program is delighted to be able to resume as normal in 2021.

We have 82 new year 7 students to our program, who have all now had two or three lessons on their instruments. Some of them got to experience a remote lesson during the recent snap lockdown, but a part from that, things have taken off without a hitch.

These students join the 226 students at MGSC who are learning instruments and have all got off to a great start this year. We are extremely pleased to have had a proper return for our ensembles in 2021 also, after 2020 made it very difficult for the ensembles to achieve at our usual level. We are looking forward to our first performances in over a year with Vocal Night scheduled for 31 March and our Junior Music Showcase on 10 May. For many students this will be their first ever public performance.

Let’s take a look back at a clip from the Music Department’s last public outing, which was the Funkadelics performing at the Kingston Women of the Year Ceremony at the Kingston Town Hall prior to the first lockdown last year.

We look forward to many performances from our ensembles throughout 2021.

House performance

Preparation underway for the House Performance in term 2.  Students have been invited to audition to represent their house in song, dance, drama or music instrument. All rehearsals including the House choral will begin soon.

How far we have come

Music staff in their music inspired masked at the end of 2020. Mr Veevers' wife Beth, hand-made music masks for all of the music team - classroom and instrumental music staff. Mr Veevers' mask had a full music notation and the others were black mask with one staff of music notation on the side. They were reversible too, so wonderfully adaptable!

Thank you to Beth Veevers. The staff were delighted to wear them and equally delighted when they were no-longer mandatory.
