Senior School Report

Well it certainly has been a busy start to the year in Senior School. Students have settled in well to their new surrounds, and teachers have provided positive feedback on how students are tackling VCE. In the first week, Year 12 students experienced a ‘VCE Enhancement Day’ day where Federation University and TAFE Gippsland discussed pathways and study skills. Kirsty Mitchell, our careers leader, spoke to students about goal setting and pathways, as well as the opportunity to speak to a panel of past students about their experiences in VCE and Lowanna and beyond. The feedback from students was very positive and we are looking at making this a regular feature for our year 12’s.

Validation tests provided students and staff an opportunity to gauge ‘where they are at’ in terms of progress and individual discussions have been occurring with students around subject selections, work ethic and homework schedules. It is pleasing to see the number of students who now have study planners managing their commitments beyond school.

With the cooler months fast approaching, it is important that all students are in correct Lowanna uniform. A reminder that the black Lowanna tracksuit pants are NOT part of the everyday attire and are only to be worn during Physical Education practical classes. The school can provide assistance, to ensure students are in full uniform. Please contact the General Office if this is the case.

Students are also reminded that they are required to attend all classes, and if they are departing the school for an appointment etc. they are required to sign out.

The year 12’s were buoyed by the arrival of their Year 12 shirts and jackets, with the student driven designs certainly looking the part.

Our School Captains were also presented with their Captain’s badges by Mr Hogan in an Assembly last week.

It was also pleasing to see the strong attendance of the Senior School at the recent swimming carnival, with many competing in the various events throughout the day.

It certainly has been a hectic start to the year. With Lockdown 3.0 providing a 3-day interruption, students have quickly settled into the structure of school. I urge all students to continue in a positive fashion and make the most of the opportunities that Lowanna provide.
