Year 11 & 12 Coastal European Experience
From Monday 22nd – Wed 24th Feb the Year 11 and 12 Outdoor and Environmental Studies classes headed to Mornington Peninsula to attend the Coastal European Experience camp. On the Monday students headed all the way to Point Nepean where they explored the forts and learnt about some of the history of the area, after this they wandered through the Quarantine Station learning about ships from the past and what some of the Early Settlers experienced upon arriving in Australia.
On Tuesday they spent the day on the water, we started the morning with stand up paddle boarding, finding much success going from kneeling to standing up. Once everyone built up some confidence it was a matter of making sure everyone found their way into the water one way or another and lots of fun was had by all. After lunch, it was time to snorkel. Once we had gone over the basics, we headed out into the water and started exploring, we went under the Portsea Pier where most of us spotted one of the local stingray, as well as sea dragons, puffer fish and other small fish. Many smiles were on faces as we emerged from the water.
Our final day of camp on Wednesday saw us doing more exploring around Sorrento; we went to look at the Collins Settlement site and up to the lookout. The weather was clear and we could see all the way across to Melbourne. We then ventured to Cape Schanck where we looked at the views from the lighthouse and then walked down to the black pebble beach, students went exploring in the rock pools and some star fish were found. After our morning of exploring we headed home, stopping in Flinders for lunch. The students enjoyed being able to participate in the camp experience again and will no doubt sleep well tonight!
Middle School Outdoor Ed
Since returning in 2021, it’s been a very busy start for students in the middle school Outdoor Education program.
Our year 10s have been studying how to safely canoe in natural and unnatural environments local to the area. As part of the program, the students visit Lake Narracan, Blue Rock Dam and Lake Tyers. Here are some photos from our first skills session to Lake Narracan.
The year 9 students have begun participating in the Bike Education program. The program provides opportunities to learn and demonstrate safe riding practices on and off the road. The students have found the program very meaningful as they work towards obtaining their car learner permits in the coming years.
Car Parking at Pick Up and Drop Off
Please be mindful of where you park when picking up or dropping your children off at school, whether it be Newark Avenue or Old Sale Road.
We are located in a residential area and have had concerns from neighbouring residents of people being unable to get out of their driveways due to cars parking close or across them.
Thanks for your understanding.

Community Volunteers Needed To Help In The School Vegetable Garden
Lowanna College ‘Green Tradies’ program is looking for community volunteers to help out with the vegetable and fruit gardening program.
There are two helpers needed, one for eight weeks and the other for one year.
Both roles would occur mainly on one day per week. The Green Tradies Program usually runs on Thursdays, and your duties would be to show students aged ~ 12 to 15 how to do vegetable and fruit gardening. There will be approximately five or six different students each lesson. The lessons last for an hour, and there are five lessons per day.
You would be working with the students in the garden to water, plant, harvest and weed.
The program also involves another volunteer who organises the garden-to-plate aspect of the program. Students get to pick the vegetables that are in season and make a meal in the garden kitchen.
People offering to be Garden Helpers must have a current Working With Children Check, or be eligible to apply for one.
(NB: Working with Children Checks are Free for volunteers and the application forms can be found at the Moe post office or online.)
