Expectations and Policies

The 'Big 5'

We have started our school year with a blitz to ensure that students fully understand where they are meant to be and what they are meant to be doing --- each day, all day! We have been discussing these expectations in CREW classes as well as displaying them on the TVs that are scattered across the neighbourhoods.

The five core student expectations we are emphasing:

  1. appropriate behaviour in playground areas;
  2. wearing school uniform;
  3. right time, right place;
  4. school attendance throughout the day;
  5. phone use.

School uniform

We expect our students to come in full ASC uniform every day.

The uniform has been developed to reflect pride in our school while maintaining flexibility for personal choice and individuality. A full description of the school uniform can be found by following this link:

Clothing items that are not accepted as school uniform and must not be worn to school:

ASC bucket hats are available for sale in the Front Office for $15.

The ASC School Uniform policy is available on the ASC Webpage.

Attendance

Why is regular attendance at school important?

Attending school everyday makes learning easier for your child and helps build and maintain friendships with other children.. Regular attendance at school will help your child succeed in later life. Unsatisfactory school attendance may affect the awarding of both the School Certificate and the Higher School Certificate (HSC).

What should I do if my child has to stay away from school?

It is important to let the school know when your child will be away and why your child was absent. Please provide an explanation for absences by means such as a telephone call, written note, text message or email to the school within seven (7) days from the first day of any period of absence.

Traffic and parking

We ask that drivers and pedestrians take special care and follow the rules within the vicinity of ASC. Mornings before school and afternoon directly after school are particularly congested times.

Drivers must obey all No Stopping/No Parking/Bus Zone signs along Butler Street and surrounding areas:

Failure to comply with these rules may result in significant penalties:

The driveway and parking lot leading from Butler Street and in front of the Administration Building is only available for visitors and student drop-off to the Special Education Unit. Mainstream students should be using the drop-off zone outside the school fence and uphill from the main entrance in Butler Street.

Student drivers are permitted to park in the area adjacent to The Den, as well as in appropriately signaged areas along surrounding streets. Further instructions for students who drive to school (including compulsory permission notes) can be found on the Location and Transport page of the ASC website.
