Learning Neighbourhoods & Innovative Spaces

Message from our Principal

It is a great pleasure to welcome students and parents to our new Armidale Secondary College campus. We are extremely proud of the new, purpose-built facilities that enable flexible, technology-enhanced, future-focused and collaborative teaching and learning for Armidale Secondary College students and staff.

Key features included on our new campus include:

  • 79 new classrooms;
  • new buildings;
  • specialist facilities to support science, industrial arts, hospitality, home economics and agricultural studies;
  • hard and soft landscaping and improved sporting courts;
  • connections between indoor and outdoor learning;
  • learning neighbourhoods with flexible and adaptable spaces;
  • refurbished heritage building.

We are a dynamic and inclusive school community who are committed to delivering quality learning experiences in an engaging and supportive environment where all students, as well as teachers, can realise their potential.

Our teaching and support staff are enthusiastic about the exciting possibilities the new innovative learning spaces offer in inspiring collaboration, creativity, communication and critical reflection.

During the next couple of weeks we will be hosting a series of campus visits for parents and carers of our students. Further details can be found on the ASC Website and ASC Facebook pages. We also look forward to scheduling community visits as soon as restrictions are further eased.

Learning neighbourhoods

One of the main ways we are providing personalised support for our large student population is through the creation of learning neighbourhoods. Every year group has an interior common area where they can gather, with as many of their classes as practicable being scheduled in the adjacent classroom areas. Other learning neighbourhoods have been set up according to speciality curriculum (eg., science, arts and drama, hospitality). Staff learning commons are also distributed across the learning areas to provide students with ready access to teacher support.

Within each building are a collection of flexible learning spaces, designed to:

  • be adaptable to accommodate small or large groups for demonstration or independent learning;
  • include learning centres with flexible spaces that allow students to use technology in a variety of settings;
  • provide opportunities to enhance skills in collaboration, communication, critical thinking, problem solving and creativity.
